I just put a pair of emblems on my cvx 17.You can order them with adhesive or rivet holes.I put the adhesive ones on and yes they do cover the original holes.I also applyed a thin layer of 3m adhesive to the back for insurance.

Where are you finding the emblems ? Is someone making reproduction emblems?

I got new emblems from Wave Engraving last spring.  Very nice reproduction.  I ordered the adhesive backed emblems and they came with a thin layer of adhesive.  Stuck them on the boat and they started falling off within 2 weeks.  Told my buddy that has a body shop and he gave me a thicker adhesive tape that is used to attach car emblems.  No problem since.

I ordered a set of these several months back and applied them after I buffed my hull. Key is to use some alcohol to really clean the area of any wax, dirt or whatever and they will stick like concrete.

Maybe mine came with some bad adhesive 'cause I prepared the surface like you recommend and they still came off.  The thicker adhesive tape I got from the bodyshop did the trick.

I had the same problem w/the ones on my CVX18. Cleaned the surface really good w/alcohol and they started coming off fairly quickly. I used a thicker 3M adhesive tape and now they are rock solid.
