What model? Hungarian Glastron
« on: August 08, 2020, 11:40:40 AM »
Dear Sirs!

I’m Gabor from Hungary, Europe. From very far away! :) I found a Glastron boat near me and it seems like a good buy. Please help me identify the exact model from the pictures. The boat was built in 1985.

Thank you very much and Best Regards from Budapest! Gabor

Welcome to the forum Gabor !

It could be a early to mid 70's LaRaYa / Glastron V174 Bayflite, if there is no HIN on stern or no data plate.
Although plate could have been removed or boat was built in USA before 1973.

If there's a HIN or data plate it wouls be a USA built Glastron V174 Bayflite

Thank you very much for your answer! I haven't seen the boat yet just in pictures. I talked to the seller on phone. The only thing in the boat’s documents is that "Glastron". The seller told me this and that the ship was built in 1985. Next week I will go to see the boat and I will try to find the plate. The ship came to Hungary from Germany a few years ago. It has an inboard engine. I think a 3.0 Mercruiser. I hope I will know more about it next week. Thanks again! This forum is wonderful!
Best wishes! G.

You can see all the USA built Glastron's here ..

Even by the late 70's LaRaYa was building the "SSV" style boats.

Nice boat.   Curious, any relation to the Gabor sisters?

Unfortunately not. My first name is Gabor. It is a common Hungarian first name and the Sisters' surname was Gabor. But I’am a cinematographer and I met Gabor Zsa Zsa once in the early nineties.

It looks like a 3.0l, most often identified as a mercruiser 140 attached to a pre alpha outdrive.  Solid combination, decent performance and good fuel useage.  Not sure what fuel cost is there, or if that is a concern.  Good for single skier or tubing.  Hopefully it checks out and you come home with a nice Glastron.   Good luck, let us know how the deal turns out.

Gabor,

You live in a beautiful city.  Do you know if there are restrictions for small boats traffic on the Danube in Budapest?  While there last year I was surprised there were no small crafts on the river in the city.  It looked like a great place to cruise around and I wished I had my Glastron there at the time to do some exploring.

Thank You Sir! Absolutely no restrictions for small boats on the Danube in Budapest. Not even for Jet Skis! (I'm not in the picture I just found it on the internet  8)) If you will come to Hungary write me - I hope I have a Glastron and we will try it on the Danube!

I already remember it! Last summer was a very sad and very tragic accident on the river in Budapest. A sightseeing ship ("Hableany") and a huge hotel ship collided. The sightseeing ship sank. The special research team tried to lift off the ship for weeks with many divers and a huge crane. It is possible that there were restrictions because of this. This very sad story on wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinking_of_Hableány

I suppose it was just late in the season.  Was mid September but weather was still very nice.  Very nice riverfront through out the city.    Hope your Glastron restore goes well.
