Title: Wanted: CV-16 rear transom trim
Post by: rayar3 on April 19, 2013, 07:03:45 PM
Looking for some trim for the 73 CV-16 project. I need the curved angle that goes into the rear corner molding. Trim is for a 73 but I believe any outboard 74+ will work too. Even if you've got a piece of it I'll take it because I'm just missing a center part that was cut out and I can weld a piece back in.

Thanks!

Talked to that guy for about 10 minutes about boats yesterday. He sold the boat to a guy that needed a title!!! Too bad, didn't have his number anymore either. Even the one that's being parted out in Buffalo doesn't have the trim.

I can remake the trim but I'm guessing by the time I need it I'll find one without having to make a wooden form and shape my own aluminum angle. I can't find an extrusion that matches with the tapered edges either. I'd hate to grind the edges and try and make it uniform looking!

Thanks.

During the clean out I found a piece attached to the burlwood side pockets that run the length of the boat. Luckily Glastron liked to save money by using the same trim throughout the build so this piece is nice and straight and it's about double what I needed. If I can't find a complete one eventually I'll just graft in what I need and call it a day.

Ray, I had a broken section on mine too, along with one of the corner pieces that snapped an ear off.  I replaced them from a parts boat of my dads, I think the broken parts are still laying around.  Left or right piece?  Mine is a 73 SS but I might have found some outboard ones laying around if I remember correctly.  I'll do some digging this weekend if your still in need.

Yeah thanks. It's always good to have spare parts. I just gave away the last of my CVX-18 stuff thinking I wouldn't need the fiberglass bucket seat shells anymore... ::)

The rear corner trim is okay. The right one has a little crack in it on that center bulbus area from being hit but I think it'll take to a weld alright. If you've got any extras let me know. Less welding/grinding/polishing is always welcome!

Thanks Gregg. My little cousin is a wiz on the welder so I've got that covered.

No luck rayar3, all I could find was that corner piece of mine.  There is one complete one on my dads parts boat, but theres also an engine hanging on it and and he wont part with it.  Good luck!

Thanks for that GLS link. I found some original Taylor windshield gasket in white online but it's $$$ and I want black. I'm going to try some black stuff I found there for $25. My early 73 windshield doesn't have the aluminum lower like on the SS and 74+ ones.

I haven't decided if I'm going to go for a brushed finish on the aluminum trim yet or not. If I go that route welding the transom trim will be a lot easier. That and I can shoot it with some clear so I won't have to wax it!  ;D

That boat is stripped of all the good stuff too. There's a 71ish for sale in Worcester but "Betsy" seems to think a hull is worth $2500 that needs everything including power. You can't reason with people that think they're sitting on a fortune. Oh well...

It's a Glastron so it's  a "James Bond boat" or a "collectors item" or "very rare".
