Title: Rathbun 2014 "feeler"
Post by: WetRaider on December 29, 2013, 11:03:06 PM
Hello Gang … I hope everyone had a great Christmas filled with opportunities to visit family and friends.  We're just 2 days away from 2014, so I thought I'd throw my mid-winter feelers out.

Let's take some votes on dates … June 6, 7 & 8 - or a week later, the 13, 14 & 15?  Most of us with kids will have them wrapping up school at the end of May, some of us through Friday the 6th.  Our final day got rained out last year, but there's no way to predict that 6 months out …

I'm happy to work out a big lunch again on local donations - so it's a long way to haul a boat for a free meal, but the company is worth it.  If I can secure a place to beach the boats that has a picnic shelter near enough, we can all boat out to have lunch.

Just like last year, I'll keep updates coming on lake conditions.  Reservations will go through reserveamerica.com again.  Campsites are relatively inexpensive, something like $16/night for the south campgrounds at Honey Creek State Park.  Sites are numbered, all electric, central shower/restroom facilities.  These sites become available 3 months prior.  There are just a very small handful of cabins that are inexpensive that come online 6 months prior.

My registration is current and the old Merc was running the best it has in my possession before I put it away this past fall … I'm determined to be on the water this year (and not get kicked off!) …

As it stands, this is the only boat meet I can make it to in 2014, and Marissa already has a countdown started.  I'm open for either dates as I'm pretty sure that the MN schools are out later than us.

Barring some serious rescheduling of my 2014 systems deployment dates...I'm out for Red Wing.  (Yes, it really sucks to know that already...)

The 6th, 7th, and 8th would work best for Amber, due to it being our weekend off, but we should be flexible for either at this point.
Looking forward to it!

I was hoping for the later week of 13,14, and 15.   All of the little cabins are already rented out for the first weekend!

As of right now, I don't think we'll be coming to Rathbun this year.

Terry, we will miss you & Nancy.  That really is a long haul for you guys and I appreciate you being here both of the previous two years.  I hope we'll get to see you in 2014.

I'll send a few private e-mails out to a couple others, then I'll worry about being date specific.  Looks like most of you a good for either weekend.  Brandon said he was flexible this far out … Barb, will you pass if there's no cabin?  I'm sure you could stay at the lodge just across the creek from the campgrounds & have a slip for the boat, too …

Doran, glad to hear that Rissa has started the countdown.

Brandon, will you check with Travis & see if these weekends are good?  Mike & Tim (plugcheck / makinwaves) … I know Tim hopes to have the 150 done & Mike is working on his project (am I remembering correctly that he sold the pink stripe?)  Anybody seen recent posts from Erik (IowaCV23)?  Tim?  Jeff?  Gregg (can we get him down this year?)?  I don't think Red will be on the water that early (at least not with his own new project).  Jerry?  There aren't many of us Iowa people out here, so the others may not be checking this board …

Well, my vote is for the later date.  MN kids get out of school later than IA, and last year's meet they weren't even done with school yet when the meet started...so if you want to 'widen the net' then I think you have to go to the 2nd date.

Amber and I are good for the later weekend. Mike still has the CV16SS, I talked to him saturday night, Said he should have the CVZ done for Rathbun. I need to get with Joe again, when we went to Branched Oak he was hoping to make Rathbun but was not sure. I know Travis gets on and browses I will check with him this afternoon on the dates (helping move a pool table and celebrating New Years with him and his wife).

I will be in Seattle for my Son's High School graduation the first weekend.  The second one would be the only one I could possibly make if I can afford it.  My boat better be done!

Mike still has pink stripe.  He's working feverishly on the CVZ.  I have no doubt he'll be ready.

Plug check here(Mike).   I will do my best to make it either weekend, but would prefer the later dates so Tim and Christine could attend.   Hoping to have CVX16SS sold by then, and CVZ completed, but in either case, I will have a Glastron to boat in.

Hey Gang!  The later date would be better for us, as with snow cancellations, etc. we may still have school run up to, or past :-( , the first weekend....but that's just my $.02 as we'll be there with bells on regardless.

Should I/we begin to make reservations for camping for the second weekend, June 13th-June15th?   Is it safe to assume the basic layout being similiar to the last two years?   We would also like to provide some form of community dinner/desert or similiar, maybe a Nebraska folks sponsored thing?  I will see Brandon and Tim likely this weekend so I will ask.   I know its cold and snowy outside, but thinking of warm calm water and Glastrons always warms my heart.   Thanks for all your hard work on this event(Dan and Family)    Michael(Plugcheck)

Hey Mike -

Dates are correct - 13-15.
We'll be using the same campsite (South Campgrounds, Honey Creek State Park).
Campsite reservations cannot take place until 3 months prior - so, Mar 13 would be the earliest we can nab our sites.

As we get closer to March, I'll get the info posted on a new thread.  Barb has offered to help me out with coordinating the Saturday meal.  I didn't hear any complaints on the brisket last year, so I may go that route once more.  I'll plan the brisket lunch for something like 2 or 2:30 pm … it will be late lunch, but the sun doesn't go down until after 8:30.  I figure a late lunch will give everyone time to play on the water for a while in the early day, and have time to get back out on the water in the evening (the water out there calms pretty regularly late in the day … with some of the muscle boats that should be showing up this year, it could be good playtime - I don't want a group dinner to get in the way of perfect water).

Tim, Brandon, and I discussed putting on a Nebraska members sponsored meal during the Rathbun 2014 outing.   With everyone's approval, we would like to provide breakfast Saturday morning.   We are planning to provide scrambled eggs, pancakes, and sausage(could end up being bacon, patties, or similar dependent upon what the local locker has that seems appealing).
