Hi All,
I recently bought a 1980 Glastron SSV167 (16 foot V-hull outboard) with a 90HP Mariner. The boat is in very good condition, better than any Craigslist "mint" or "excellent" or "immaculate" ads I have seen! I have always wanted one of these. Whenever I think of a boat this is the silhouette that comes to mind first.
I picked it up about 320 miles from home on Saturday, Jan 11 2014, got back late and had to cover it before the neighborhood cats christened the interior for me. It has been at storage since then so I do not have many pics as yet.
The sale went well. The ad from this guy was written very intelligently and when we met it was like I bought it from myself the way we clicked. I even talked myself down some
Gelcoat is still shiny all over, top and sides and transom. The floor is absolutely solid and pristine. Transom is solid and not even any spider cracks in any corners, looks pristine. Carpet shows no wear. The vinyl is still soft and the cushions comfortable, just a few wear points if you look closer. The walk-thru windshield all lines up perfectly, just like new, whole boat is just solid as heck.
Still on the original ShoreLandr tilt trailer. Bolt on coupler still looked new, bearings recently packed, good winch and jack, and made the 320 mile trip easily, pulled great.
It is the Fish'nSki version but to me seems more Ski than Fish which is fine with me as I do not fish. Has the pedestal and seat for the open bow area, the pedestal when installed is rock solid. The fishing seat looks great too. Came with trolling mount and motor and battery mount under the left console and wiring with outlet up front all factory installed. Cooler section up front as well (or a place to put fish in I guess, but no livewell pumps) and under-seat storage. Seat cushions up front snap down. I knew Glastrons were built well and am very happy I found this one.
So I am now in MBS (Multiple Boat Syndrom) territory, working out storage solutions for both. That is the only downside so far.

I believe this boat may have been purchased originally in Wisconsin because I found a sticker on it from a dealer there. I will get more info about this as soon as I can. I know it spent the bulk of its' life in Missouri under the care of a Marina in or around Bull Shoals. The person I bought it from bought it from a dealer in Missouri. It has been in garage or covered storage for most of its' life and the condition bears this out.
I can't wait to get this on the water!
This site is great source of Glastron history and I am glad I found this.

Welcome to the CGOAMN forum Dan !
It's getting harder to find them as nice as your ...
Check out the " Vendor and Repair Resources " section for spec's and info.

Yea, Beautiful boat! You will love it. The SSV handle very well and that 90hp should move her along nicely!
Congrats on the purchase!

Thanks guys!
It has a 17p SS on it now, I have not had it in the water yet. I have the prop in getting refurbed as it was a little dinged up. I was thinking it would have a 19p on it and was a little surprised when I cleaned it up and saw the numbers. Can't wait to get it out on the water and see how it runs. The last guy used it for skiing mostly and that may be why it has a 17p. He did not even know it was an SS though, and we did not discuss what he thought the pitch was. No biggie, I will see what RPM's I can get then go from there.

Congrats & Welcome!!!

Looks like a great Find Dan, nice combo! Looking forward to hearing about your lake test(s). ;)

Now I believe the original purchase was from a dealer in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

I got the boat out on the lake today. Ran great, rode and handled very well. I am impressed with this hull! With the 90HP Mariner and 17p stainless prop this thing literally jumped up on plane snapping my head back, hit top speed of almost 40 in just a few seconds. I love it, though believe it is slightly underpropped for what I want to use it for. The tach did not work so I will wait until I fix that to decide if it needs a 19p or more.
The motor started good and ran great, very responsive and strong. Should be a blast for this season.

Try a Laser II 20 P on it.
You can find them for $150 or less on CL and eBay.
Nice to see you got her out and boat was everything you hoped it would be !

Thanks Hyper, that prop sounds about right, I think I will pick one of those up. We have kneeboarders and tubers but no skiers yet, so the 17p I have is overkill for my cruising needs, like driving a 4.56 geared hotrod on the street! Right now it takes off like a hot jetski :o

Well, I love my Piranha 4 blade props for water sports and speed.

Update on prop sitch with the pitch, I had 2 passengers last weekend and the 17p seems just right with a load. Came out of the hole well, lost a couple of MPH but still ok. Felt like it would have no problem with a tube or a skier with 2 skis. For slalom would have to limit passengers. I am 270lb, and passengers were 175 and 130.

99% of the time I do straight line, top speed or near top speed river running, but keep a 19P Alum. prop for back up or the seldom time I would want to pull a skier/tuber.
Figure out what works best for the majority of your usage and keep a spare in the pitch you only use at certain times.

My 67 V163 with 100 merc would really jump out of the hole with a 19 but would over rev. Passengers would slide out of the rear seats. Experimented a bit and now run a 23 pitch 2 blade bronze for speed. That wouldn't work so well for your needs but I would at least try a 19,20 and 21 if you have access to them. It looks like your Mariner is an inline 6 so you can run higher RPM's than me with my rebuilt 4 cyl.

Thanks Rosscoe, Hyper, Doran, A 19p 3 blade is what I want to try next for reference. Have to stick with stainless to be same-same so it will have to be a well budgeted transaction, hopefully yet this year. Based on what that does I may end up with a 4 blade 18p for all-around use but who knows, this is the fun part :)

I got the boat out on the lake today.
Which lake do you run on? I take my CV23 to Lake Lewisville

Nice boat RJC!
We go to Lake Ray Roberts almost exclusively. I have only been on Lake Lewisville a couple of times with my other boat for some shakedowns, we splashed at Pilot Knoll Park by Highland Village. At Lake Ray we splash in at the Sanger Access Park.

Slick SSV Dan, great shape too! Bet she handles like a sports car. You're in the right place for all things Glastron, or heck, just about anything marine or motors in general too.
I'm in San Antonio area, good to see more Texas folks on here. Let me know if you hear of a Texas Glastron gathering any time in the future. :)
Lake Ray Roberts looks nice.

Thanks Catch! I had it out today and did some tight turns, it was fun. This hull sure rides nice, hard to believe it is only 16 footer sometimes.
