Title: New Scimitar Project
Post by: tmoore521 on June 15, 2018, 01:41:50 PM
I'm in the processing of sourcing the "Known Parts" required for this 1981 CXT Glastron Carlson Scimitar Project.

Although I'm 70 and still working full time I plan to complete the "DO Over" in 2 years.
My only real accomplishment is that I  striped the boat down to see what I bought.
The previous owner did some restoring which I will reverse and use different materials to build the boat back up.

The boat is now located in Riverside California.  It took it's first 3000 mile trip from upstate New York to Riverside.

If there is an interest I will post the progress.
Let me know if you want to follow along on the rebuilt.

Not yea, but heck yea we want to see progress photos!  You are truly ambitious sat an age of 70, and still working, to take on such an endeavor.   I certainly would not try to talk you out of it though.    Looks like its in good shape from the photos.  The Scimitar is one of the most sought after and collectable Carlsons.   Thanks for sharing.

Just curious, did it actually make it 3000 miles with the single axle trailer, or was it placed onto a flatbed?   The Scimitar is rather heavy, never seen one sitting on a single axle trailer before.   I was thinking dry it weighs around 2600 lbs, light by most boat standards yes, but for a 3500lb axle its pushing it.

The Scimitar was delivered on a flatbed.  I purchased a "Trail rite" dual axle trailer for this boat.  If anyone knows where I might find the original Aluminum trailer  for the Scimitar I'm very interested.

Being 70 I do have some challenges  but I remember what my Grandpa use to say .... If you slow down Death will catch you ... Thats why the engine going back in is designed @ 475 HP @ 5000 rpm.  Only the dyno will tell the real truth .... In about 3 months.

Being from upstate I guess that one got away from me.
Nice score Tom and good luck with the re-resore. Can't wait for more pics.
