Oil cooler routing on a 351 and berkley jet
« on: July 28, 2010, 05:33:58 PM »
Any of you guys have a pic or such on the routing of the oil cooler lines for a 351 glastron and 12je berkley? Trying to rehookup the oil cooler on mine as the previous owner unhooked it and have no idea where to hook the lines. Must have a pretty rare combination as I can't find much info on this engine. Boat is a 74 V184 with a glastron 351 and a berkley 12je.

Nope, didn't know that was there. It shows the cooler, but nothing on the engine that is in mine. Mine has a 351 windsor in it. I did however see where to look for the conections on the engine, so will look this weekend when I do an oil change. Is there any special type of hose I need to run from the adapter to the cooler or will standard hydralic hose work?

Post some pics. I am sure we can figure something out. I am not sure I even have an oil cooler to tell you the truth. Redoing the boat and never had it in the water.

Brian has a 460 Ford and jet.

Update. Got the oil changed yesterday and found that there is no adapter on the oil filter as shown in the stuff that Hyperacme posted the links for. Guess I will just leave it unhooked for now untill I can get a different adapter.

By adapter do you mean a place/fitting where the cooler would be plumbed in?

Yep. The berkley stuff shows an adapter like chevy uses on there trucks. Where the oil filter goes in there is a block between the filter and engine that is tapped for the lines to hook to.

When you get a camera working I would love to see some pics of your boat. I always thought it would be cool to own a Crestflite jet boat. Do you have a Place Diverter, or a Jetovater on it?

Sign up and get a manual: http://www.berkeleyjet.com/CustSignIn.aspx?ReturnPage=CustProfileMain.aspx

The hose that comes out of the jet at the stern of the boat goes to the oil cooler and then continues on to the front of the block.

The manual has a simple diagram.

The oil cooler is an option that our boat does not have.

Mine has the cooler on the water line coming out of the jet, but nowhere to hook oil lines up to on the engine. The last owner had an oil leak that he had a marina near Chicago fix. Thinking the leak was the adapter and the marina removed it instead of replacing it. As far as pics, I will try to borrow a camera and get some up. If I don't get one, we might be coming to redwing if I can get time. The pump is all stock, no place diverter. My wife won't let me spend the money to get one being on unemployment and all (still trying to talk her into going to redwing and it's less than 3hrs away).

Interesting.
Mine has a line going back to or from the jet but it just ties into the line that runs from the risers. Must not be cooling any oil this way.

This is what I am afraid of when and if I change manifolds and risers...the plumbing. These are not like mercruisers. Similar to the ford though in that it had two lines on the front of the manifolds.

That nipple is actually the mechanical fuel pump. I changed it over to an electric one, but left the pump on to plug the hole in the block. The oil cooler is the thing in the botom of the pick that has the brass plug in it.
