What Model Is This?
« on: August 15, 2010, 10:31:20 PM »
Okay boys & girls put yer thinking caps on ...

Yer gonna love this: Boat is dated as a 1990 on the title. It's not. Title matches the "HIN" which was by all appearances stuck on with a red DYMO label maker between the motor & the port gunnal ...

Thanks Rich! Sure looks like the '66 Skiflite. They were relatively aware it was not a 1990. They'll be tickled to hear that it's a '66. Nice couple. Just picked up the boat out in the sticks a couple weeks ago for $800 bucks. Doesn't look like it's seen a lot of salt water. Reportedly came with a nice trailer too.

Thanks again.

Edit: This one was origionally blue. There's a gouge in the paint near the bow. Good call.

Then you might want to find a serial number in the hull to verify the year. They had blue for several years and I was going by the color shown in the pics, couldn't tell it was repainted at my end. Look for an info plate or up under the splash-well. This hull design of the V142 Skiflite was made from 1966 thru 1971 I think.

Ya Rich, I thought it looked like gel when I first pulled up. But the boat has in fact been painted. Dunno what they used but it actually looks purty good? Or could with a lil elbow grease. (Like I should talk.) Anyway he does have the w/s but took it off so he can fish off the bow ...  Hey mebbe it'd fit my boat? Nah, we don't need no steenking windshield!

Yup I told him where/to look for a tag under the deck.

Thanks again for the ID.

What is this, test Richie's ID talent today???  ;D

That is also a V142 Skiflite and unless it's been repainted the only year they had an all-white hull was in '67. This one has the later 1970-1976 emblems and a way overpowered engine. The seller calls it a 1974 V125 16 footer and there was no such model. I'd be skeptical about its originality if the seller doesn't even know what he's selling.

Oh don't be such a poopie pants Rich. Sometimes it's better when the seller doesn't know what he's selling?

Tell ya what if I had a 12'5" Glastron with an 85 on it I'd be kickin' a** & takin' names! Heh heh heh

I looked at this boat 2 years ago. I believe it was a 1971. White on white and not repainted.

We would have put a 50 merc on it, but it was more of a project than we were looking for.

I saw this one too and I was pretty sure it wasnt a 74. The transom is notched at the corners like my 67. Same goes for  the two lines down the bow. The windshield frame looks like my 61.
The badges look too new as well. My 71 has that style, and when did they ever do one all one solid color?
Hard to tell how long it is. Might not be overpowered. My 67 163 is rated for 115

According to the brochures the only all white V142 Skiflite produced was in '67 but we know those stats were not set in stone as options have been known to change after the catalogues were printed. They were however only rated for up to 50 hp, and the V143 Jetflites were rated up to 65 hp. I just wish the '72 brochure was more complete in the CGOA brochures section, several models are missing from it.

Yeah, got it - thanks. The one thing that puzzled me is they had no listing for a V174 or V170 for 1972. They go from a 16 foot Bayflite to an 18 V184. They reintroduce the V174/V173 in 1973 as the new Bayflite design. No V142 Skiflites are listed.
