I NEED ONE OF THESE
« on: September 24, 2010, 08:27:24 AM »
I one a 1981 Carlson Intimidator and am missing one of the thumb screws that holds the motor lid shut.  Does anyone know where I might acquire one of these??

Hmmm.... That looks an awful lot like the beauty that was at the OKCOBRA show.  :o

I'll see if my project Intimidator has them and take one to my buddy's machine shop to have him make some up. I know some have used regular hardware pieces that were fairly similar (Shorty maybe?), or maybe someone has a source for these already...

Well... I used some 'Thimb Screws' obtained from a local hardware store.

You'd be suprised what you can order. You can most likely order something near identicle in Stainless.

I went with stuff they had in stock. No photos that would show, but Black Plastic 'Grip' about 1 1/4" Diameter, about 1/2" Thick total height.

They look good on it, and are easy to crank in and out.

I think the threads on the originals are a spiral cork screw lookin type,
The ones I got are a Course thread.... fairly standard and much much closer together, but work great.

Food for thought.... even if not permanant.... works if you need something quick.

And they were cheap. $1.00-1.50 each ???

Shorty-
I thought that was your thread that I saw that on.

Burnin Daylight-
mine are missing on the Intimidator, but, my buddy who bought my CVX is going to remove one and let me borrow it to take to a friend's machine shop so that I can reproduce it. I'll make a few while I'm at it. I'll let ya know how I make out, hopefully sometime this week. Gotta go there anyway to pick up some stainless hardware that he's working on for my CVZ.

Hyperacme,
thanks for the info! I followed the thread, looks like they were having trouble figuring out the part number. I will be picking up the one from my old CVX tomorrow, and will contact the supplier to see if there is a match available. if there is, I'll post the info, and if not, I'll get some made up.

Guys thanks for the help with the thumb screw.  I have been looking for one of those for 16 years.  That will make it complete. :)

Can you post better pictures of your Intimidator ?
The ones above are very small ...
If you can't get them to post, send them to me and I'll get them up.
Email address is in my profile.

Got a note and some pictures from Barb ...

BEAUTIFUL !

" I can't seem to compress the pictures I have and post them so thanks for offering to post the pics of my boat.  I also attached a couple of when she was getting her new clearcoat and a couple of the interior.  The interior has been in there for about 10 years, the clearcoat was just redone this spring.  My motor is really pretty solid for stock.  Olered says I give him a good run.  I think he is just blowing smoke up my skirt. "

The diamond pleat interior is killer Barb. 'Specially the way the seat back seams for the most part (heh heh) line up with the seat bottom cushion. That's not easy to do. Very nice interior work. Looks great!

I agree on the Diamond Pleat. It's hard to get that to look right and you sure did! Awesome boat!

Barb,
I got the original piece from the new owner of my old CVX, and have contacted the company that manufactures them. I am waiting to hear back if they make (or still make) this exact piece, and whether or not they will sell them directly to me (the rep wasn't sure if my construction based distribution/tax license would work) and if not they will get me part # and distributor info.

so, long story short, I'll soon know if I can get 'em, or have to make 'em.  ;D either way, sounds like there are quite a few folks that would like to see that beauty in MN next year! I'll be coming from PA with the CVZ-19, or possibly the Scimitar if it's done, so maybe you can follow OleRed up the pike and be there too! I'm sure you will get alot more "encouragement" as the time gets closer.  ;)

If someone could post a picture of it, I might be able to get them thru our hardware supplier.

We have a motor head in the shop that thinks he "knows a guy that knows a guy"  ???

Heard back from them today. Have to go thru a distributor (unless I buy 5000 of them!  ;D ), so I'm gonna get a handful of them since I need some, and to have a few extras around in case someone else needs some in the future. So, as soon as they're here I'll let ya know, and I can either send 'em on down to OleRed, or you can PM me your address and I'll mail 'em straight to ya.

I would take 1/2 dozen of them.  There is some reason that they are missing from so many boats.  The original one that I still have gets loose from vibration pretty easily.  It is always the backseat riders responsibility to keep it tightened down.  Price to pay for spending time on the boat.  Gosh my friends would probably pay for them just to keep me off their butt about that thumb screw thing.

I'm trying to convince myself that I can tandom the 5th wheel and the boat and not hurt anybody on the way up.  I might have to hire one of those escort companies to flag for me and add a 100 gallon diesel tank to my truck.
