Burnin Daylight has been missing for a while.  She was over at a local company Eaton Quade getting a new dash fabrication.  There were alot of holes from previous owners that I wanted to cover up tastefully and Im a girl so I had to have some bling. What do you guys think? I have the carlson logo on a switch and lit with LEDs behind blue plexi.

Its a great solution to a common problem for our old boats...cosmetic surgery to cover up some blemishes.

The LED is an awesome touch, very very nice job.

Looks good barb. I had thoughts of doing LED's on my boat under the dash and sides to give a glow at night. Looks like your getting your boat all together for this season. Keep up the good work!

I was wondering when those were going in. this project has certainly picked up some followers, as it should. can't think of a better boat for all that power, and all those details. very nice! you keep raising the bar, and I may just keep the tarp on mine and call it a lost cause!  ;)

Barb, did you get your tunes all dialed in and rockin? love the Carlson logo, turned out pretty much the way you described it to me. looks great. I love these kinds of tasteful custom touches. it's inspiration for us all. a class vessel, for sure.

The tunes are dialed in and rockin (thanks for the help Wex) and as a matter of fact I hooked the LEDs under the gunwales up to the dimmer switch yesterday. That's about all of the bling for now. I'm struggling to get the larger modern tach and speedo to fit into the smaller 30 year old retro hole in the dash panel. The smaller gauges fit right into their holes. Go figure had to run into a snaffoooo somewhere.  Will get it solved today.

Barb - Nice job on the recessed gauges.  That's something I've wanted to do as well is adjust the gauge 'angle' so that they point more directly at the captain.

And that was done custom?  Or do they have a panel that you just sized to match?

Doran, the instrument panel is original to the boat. I'm just trying to modify it for the new instruments.

Looks good. Barb and Red, you two did a great job on the boat.

I just made a new gauge panel for my CVX and used Formica just like the original panel and backed it with 1/8" plywood for extra support and for the gauge mounting brackets to have something to bite in to.

As for the large gauges, I could not find a 3 3/8" hole saw to save my life so I bought a 3 1/4". After drilling it out I used a 2" sanding drum in my drill press and slowly worked the hole until the gauge just slipped in.

Need to finish my center console box so I can put in the two 6 1/2" speakers I bought. Went with the tried and true MB Quart brand from Germany. I've had them in every car I've had since 1986. Can't wait to hear them in the boat.

For circle cuts, I use my dremel...it has a special circle jig, drill the center hole and you put in the pivot hole and it rotates around cutting the circle.  Works really well, infinitely adjustable to any (6" or smaller) size.

Just thought I'd share...

Doran looks like OleRed is going to cast a mold from the original dash panel with the recessed and angled gauge holes.  It will then end up at Eaton Quade plastics and they will be able to reproduce the original panel but with the larger holes for the newer instruments. They have molds of the t
t tops and window winglets from OleReds scimitar which they reproduce and ship worldwide. So if your panel is like mine a 6 hole panel there is a possibility of getting an original replica.
