Ca - Bling bling
« on: January 10, 2011, 10:03:05 PM »
The heads came in late this evening ... I Like this set-up
the Fox said I could use the coffee table, but I had to promise to move them in the next couple days.

I weighed the heads with the rockers, valve cover, guide plates, and a set of the head bolts ... 29.7 pounds
then I bolted the exhaust manifold on it and weighed it again ... 56.4 pounds
almost 113 pounds for the whole set-up ... I'm Grinnin !

LOL ... I'm spending my kid's inheretence.

Not really,  I really shopped around and got a couple good deals on these parts,  the aluminum heads are only about 20 pounds lighter than the cast iron, each, but the Big difference in weight back in the bilge area are the exhaust manifolds, the cast iron set weighs 160 pounds, the shipping weight for the aluminum set was only 54 pounds, bolts, risers and all, so, with all the lighter stuff added up, I have taken 200 pounds off the motor by using this stuff. I am searching for an aluminum flywheel ... we'll see, thats a nother big weight issue, the one that came on my vortec weighed 47 pounds, the one I've been running weighs 34, but I haven't found the weight of an aluminum one to compare with yet,  I did run a flex plate first, but it made the cam kick the gears in the drive too hard, when I removed the flex plate it had a crack in it about 3" across.

Thanks guy's, I like em, and Yes, I can hardly wait to get started putting this motor together, but I will get Barb's boat done first, I'm planning on Saturday to put the motor in Burnin Daylight.  Barb brought her 13 year old nephew over today, he crawled up under the bow of the Intimidator and give it a good cleaning, and done a great job, sure glad he came to do that, it's a little close quarters for and ole guy with bad knee's.

I got the 4" exhaust thru-hull fittings today, but thats all,  the 12" tips with muffler and diverters did not show up, the lable said 1 of 1 packages, and it showed 10 pounds shipping weight, but these in the package only weigh 4 pounds,  I've not been able to get in contact with the seller,  maybe tomorrow, I can get hold of them.

Red sounds like your re-doing your whole exhaust system as well. With diverters I'm guessing your installing a "Captains Call" type system. Thanks for posting the weight savings on the various aluminum engine components. Invaluable info for anyone thinking about trying to take some weight out of the stern on their I/O.

Beautiful to say the least! I am suprised that the weight of the heads isnt greater. Lots of weight shaved off in any case.
I agree. Its all too nice to cover up.

I got the rest of the exhaust system in today, all of them, one set pretty nice, just needs a little cleaning up, and the other set is missing the backwash flappers, and one of the actuators,  it will be pretty easy to put some new flappers in them, and I will keep the single actuator for re-placement if I need one.
