Hey guys, been out of the loop for a while, just taking a look at what's been going on recently.

About this web site... I attended a recent meet by this club in Austin (new club) a few months back.  Afterwards, their leader told me they wanted to highlight "Glastron's" for the upcoming year, and since I had my V-166 at the meet, started emailing all kinds of questions about the company, boats, etc.  I was happy to help, but it became apparent quickly, that they were trying to "reinvent the wheel".  I recommended that they link or direct discussion about Glastron's to the national and MN site, and talk with Brian, as these are the center of gravity for all things Glastron.

They are nice folks, maybe their efforts are just a little misdirected?  If they have taken it a little too far in your opinion, and you want what they are doing modified (I haven't really looked at what they have done), I would be happy to email him. Again, I don't think they are trying to hi-jack the web site, just trying to piggy back on your expertise.

Let me know if I can help!

Its a lot dicey in my opinion.  This site would have no idea if he's recording keystrokes for any user who logs in through their site...or tracking their activities.

You'll notice that they don't simply link & redirect...they keep you on their site, then have a sub-window that hits the CGOAMN site.

Maybe Brian's been asked, and gave approval, but common web courtesy would be to ask if its ok to do a direct link, and then do so.  However, they're going beyond that and loading this site under their own banner.

It also bypasses the cgoamn.com main site, and goes directly to the forums...which I think I'd consider a no-no as well.

They can't pass off content as their own, while trying to build their own site up.

Pretty cheap maneuver IMO...

They can't be all bad! They like old Glastrons for crying out load! But I do agree with Doran. I think a link to our site would be more approriate. A LOT of work and MONEY has been invested into building the CGOAMN site and to have someone else just clone it is kind of rude.

Brian is paying for this website and forum along with club donations so what they are doing is actually stealing.

One other thing I noticed. Their site is making a pretty strong effort to have banner ads ect, which makes me belive that maybe they are in it for the money. So to use our site for free which we are paying for to gain hits on their website to bring in more advertisers to turn a profit has GOT to be illegal.

Yeah, I'm sure he didn't either...just was saying that's the only way that'd it'd be ok.  But, there's no way he'd agree to that.

I did NOT agree to anything like this, not did I ever recieve and questions pertaining to permission.

If anyone has contact with their administrator, they need to be informed that this is unacceptable and needs to be removed now.

I'm e-mailing them too...

Does it come up as "Hello Administrator" on your pages, or does it come up with your used ID?

He seems like a nice person...  Hopefully we have come to an agreeable resolution.

I'll update as we progress.  He has said that he will remove the existing link, and modify it to our likeing.

Thanks!

ok...

The old link (although still doing what it used to) has no path leading to it through his forum.

The new path leads to our website homepage.

Check it out...

http://www.austinantiqueboatclub.com/oldboats360-glastron.html

I'll be deleating this thread in a short while as we don't want to have any bad feelings for someone who seems to be a reputable person.

Thanks team for your support, and hopefully we can build a good bridge here!
