Mille Lacs is a big choppy lake even on a calm day. Google Lake Vermillion and see if you like it. Also has a nice Casino (fortune Bay. I think it's a better lake for boating and fishing.

The casino is nice, hotel rooms are pretty nice as well.  Depending on the wind direction you can usually find calmer water towards the north end of the lake.  I went there labor day weekend two years ago and stayed at a hotel in garrison and rented a slip at mirmar marina.  Let me know when you plan on going there, I might be able to join you on the lake.
