CV-16 resto part b
« on: February 11, 2012, 06:52:38 PM »
Finally made the pilgrimage to express composites last week and now the fun can begin.  I took the resin and mixed it with silica powder to make a paste, I put that in the groove from the old stringer and hammered in the new one. Then I used the paste and filled in the gaps on the sides.  Then mixed some regular resin and dbpm? cloth (the real heavy duty stuff) and tabbed in the stringer.  That's all for now, I'll see how far I get tomorrow.

Shaun looking good so far. Are you gonna try to get the Volvo drive working or make an OB out of it?

Fill that whole in the transom, get a bracket and I'll sell you my 88 SPL that's in excellent condition to put on the back.

We did that with a friends boat. Mercruiser with south, outdrive needed to be rebuilt so he had the whole filled for about $350 and found a crashed bass boat with a Johnson 175 and bought it and the jackplate for $2000. Has been running it like that for 5 years. He made a bench seat and turned the engine bay into storage and an ice chest with a bilge pump to suck out the water when the ice melted. Works perfect for him.

Yeah, I tried to contact him that summer when I went out to CO after red wing but no luck.  As for the 50hp NO, I'm not really sure what I'll be doing yet. Maybe see if Kip will sell me his 305,  If I do go with an outboard it would be a min 115.  I have one just like your's as a matter of fact wilier.

Now your talking Shaun, Stick a V8 in that bad boy w/thru-hull! ;D You'd still have to put a new transom in it though due to the smaller cut-out unless you mated it to the Volvo drive.

I don't have seats, I've heard from brian that a lawn chair is a bad idea.  Does anyone have suggestions?  I kind of want to avoid the generic lounge seats and the four fishing seat set ups.

Sean - You can get semi-custom made ones from here...and...not horrible pricing.  They have a ton of colors that aren't on their website.  I sent them pictures of Goldie and received about 10 yellow color samples back from them.

Bucket seats would be under 'Helm Seats', and I've often wondered if a guy couldn't get a pontoon bench made up and then adjusted to fit the width of the boat.  (They don't do custom widths unfortunately.)

http://veada.com/

They won't look 'vintage' of course...just depends on what you're trying to accomplish as an end result.
