What's it called?
« on: April 23, 2013, 10:23:08 AM »
For putting my floor back together, I'm thinking of going with the metal flashing for the floor like a lot of boats have today...but what's it called?  Having trouble getting the right keywords to pull it up.

Looks like...its some kind of aluminum channel...

Unless I'm mistaken, it's called "that little metal flashing stuff that looks kinda like a double L". But I may be wrong.  Hope this helps.

Unfortunately, that's not the right shape Jim...I need the top lip to sit on the floor, and the bottom lip to hold the hatch:

Try 'Aluminum Zee Bar'

That got me a couple hits, so I changed it to 'Aluminum Z Channel' and that got quite a few more.

I really expected to be able to find this stuff quickly & easily on iboats.com or any other marine store...but yeah, it seems to be 'Z' something!

I agree with Jim.  Z-bar is the word.  You can also find it like a lowercase "h" so that it slips over the top and bottom of your existing floor and leaves a flat lip on the bottom for the new piece to lie on.

It took a while, but its called 'Hatch Trim', 'Z Bar' is close, but doesn't have the lip on the top outer edge to help it seal up.  Finally found this on the 'Taco Marine' website.

You should consider the 'h' channel, I think it would give you better support.

That h channel looks solid. Might be worth checking out.

Here's a link to that taco marine "where to buy" page.
