Pretty sure the GX is an outboard Doran ...
You could ask the seller just to be sure though ...

I just don't see an OB?

I love the '76 GT-150, but it'll be either that GX-150 or my CVZ.  Kids & wife don't like sitting backwards on a boat.

She's basically is over the 'boat thing' so its my hobby to get what I want essentially...

Ok, been talking to a few people, cover can go with the boat, but we'll need to talk first.  :D  I won't sell the cover first.

I'm waiting on more photos of the gx-150, and I should see it on the 29th.  I expect that to impact how anxious I am to sell the CVZ.

Doran - a quick box, some pour foam and mold release or petroleum jelly should get you a mold of that thing real quick.  Make the mold, sell the cover ... then have new ones laid into the mold ...

If you really want that GX-150, I would buy it and float two boats for awhile. Eventually you will sell the CVZ. That is what I did owning the V-153 and buying the CVX-16. Knew that was the boat for me, but did not want two boats. Tryed the CVX-16 out on the water before putting the V-153 up for sale and it sold after a longggggggggggggg six weeks. If I had not bought the CVX-16 on the spot, there were dozens of people behind me to buy it.

I've played that game before...I can sell my wife on some stuff...but spending another $4k on another boat...well, let's just say we've done the 2 boat thing once, and she's nobody's fool.

I haven't even see the boat in person, its one thing to buy a project boat blind, but one that you want to not have to work on...that needs some eyes on site.

Gary (the owner) is a good guy, I'm waiting on more pictures and will see it on the 29th.  If it sells, it wasn't meant to be.

In Iowa, we have to have the boats rated person capacity on the boat.  So the CVZ is rated for 8, or you can put 'OR' Owner Responsible...but then if they think you're overloaded, you can attract the DNR's attention.

You're suppose to have it only so many inches from the stern ... but there are still quite a few people who run boats without the capacity ...  Doran's number sticks out and is easy to see from a distance.  A friend out here was stopped pulling out of the marina because their fender was hanging over the number - no ticket, but still a hassle.

DNR out here likes to bust people when their on-board and on-towable capacity is greater than the boat's label.

Nope we don't Joe, I think we should though!
I have seen enough over loaded boats on Sherman where the game and parks guy should have been kicking them off of the lake!

Well if the DNR is relying on the owner putting the correct number on it, without any knowledge or specs on the boat, everyone could just put 12 or 15... something ridiculous.
Then they'd have to stop you and look at the tag to see the boat capacity jives with the number you put on.  Seems like a dumb azz law to me.

Doran, after all the blood sweat and tears you've put into both your CVZ's, why do you want to sell it and go to something that small when you have kids and such? You've got a nice boat and know what has been done to it and what it still needs. We all have our likes and dislikes but I think the one you have is superior in the looks department and probably handling too. Besides, it has a V8!!!!

If it doesn't sell, its totally fine by me!  I can say I tried, didn't violate the 1 boat rule, and it wasn't meant to be.

Its good to know that the mythical '82 gx-150 exists though!

Sometimes my "always looking for the perfect solution",  when none exists " syndrome gets the better of me.   I used to do it with cars and now it crept into my boat life.

"Other boat fever" has passed, boat is off the market.  Thanks for all the calls,  texts and pm's that helped set me straight!

We're going to figure out how to get the bow cover molded this fall.

Glad to see Goldie is staying in your family for a little longer! She does have a good family to be with.

Just curious what changed your mind on making a mold for the bow cover??

Good to hear Doran. I think you and Goldie are meant to be. This is not the first time you tried to get rid of her and she comes crawling back.

I needed a reminder from the kids that my (now deceased) Dad and I really bonded over building the boat.  Not that we weren't good before it, because we were, but he loved that boat.  Even though I know he'd say, "Its just a boat, sell it if you want to"...I'm not there yet.

So yes, its supposed to be mine.  I'll keep my eye out for a gx-150 project eventually.

Brandon - 2 reasons.

1) I made a promise to Wex that if he blessed me with the 2nd cover he found, I'd not mold and sell copies, thus devaluing both our boats values in the process.  It would also not honor all the time & effort he'd gone through to find them.

2) There are enough CVZ owners who are 'good guys' that it makes sense to help them out...but everyone needs to keep in mind that from an purely economic standpoint, its going to cost me money in lost value in my CVZ.  Supply & demand...simple as that.

That said, Wex freed me from that promise, and as a guy who works with fiberglass has agreed to make the mold and the reproductions.

We'll work on costs & prices this fall, and I'll take orders & deposits when we're ready.

The cover costs about $100 to ship each way...so just getting the cover to PA & back will cost $200, which means the cover to your door, before it even is made...is already $100...so in the end it may be cost prohibitive.

What if you had the new ones molded out of plastic?
Then, the original covers would retain their higher value, new owner's of old boats without could buy a lower cost "reproduction" cover, the plastic would be lighter weight and cost less to ship ... ?

Know what would be cool, form them out of tinted lexan or plexi like the windshield, so you could still see the seats even when it's covered...

Edit: Maybe you could also form the rear section with a lip up to form the missing windshield section. I bet it would be big and awkward and easy to break though...
