« on: June 30, 2013, 10:35:46 PM »
Well it begins the slow process of rebuilding the CVZ-18 is beginning. Brandon found the final missing piece for the restoration  of Fawkes, the highly coveted CVZ-18 grab handle. The tear down will begin towards the end of the week.

Chased after some new wheels for the trailer. Picked them up for $80 going to eventually have the black powder coated to match the gold metallic and trailer will be painted yellow to match the hull.

Nah, probably have them all powder coated to match that way if I some how ruin a rim I have an extra. Plus Phoenix has a nice set of aluminum rims on her trailer already.

Honestly, I have been looking for a 15 inch rim with a 5 x 4.5" bolt pattern since I got her home. Two weeks ago these wheels were listed on my local craigslist for $140. He updated the listing to $80 last Thursday called on Friday afternoon and told him I would take them sight unseen. I could not pass up on a deal that good.

You've got some time, outfit the two extras with full-size spares ... keep 'em with the trailer.

My new Shorelander trailer has the 13"rim, I've wanted to spruce up the wheels but not many choices in the 13" without going to a new wheel...

The ones that are under Phoenix Rising are 13", her trailer is a modified Shoreland'r 1984 model. I picked up the rims with tires off eBay for I think $70 each with free shipping in the spring of 2012.

The tear down will be a slow process today, it is a hot and humid day. Engine cover is in my shop with the anchor light socket removed and the add on temp gauge. Also have the bow light removed.

Got the rails, ladder, hardware, and windshields removed today. Boy it was a hot one out there today. No wind and had to be 100% humidity. Ugh!

Amber started peeling one of them off but they are a SOB to peel off by hand. Need to use a razor scraper to remove them, but I am out of blades at the moment. And being out in rural Nebraska all the hardware stores close at 4pm on Sunday so by the time I thought about it they were closed. But it is on the top of my list for the next evening I work on her.

A heat gun or hair dryer works well for removing stuff like that too.

easy on the heat gun ya can melt the gel-coat. Just heat it and peel it with your fingernails, then goo-gone.

I hope to have her done by then but I am not going to make any promises. She needs everything, and I do mean everything.

Just want to put out a big thanks to Shawn for the FREE engine parts and seat pedestals! And Joe for the control handle!

I think the pedestals will polish up great.
