That is a great looking boat, the transom saver(rope) kinda made me cringe, but overall it appears to be a well cared for craft.

There is a reason for the flames.

And some history on the interior.

And some history on the interior.

I found shorty's rebuild on the boat because I was looking at purchasing it in the fall of 2012. If my memory serves me correct the flames were painted on due to some major gelcoat issues. Something that could not be fixed. That is why I passed on it.

I can't find his rebuild thread ?
He changed his user name so it not easy to find his posts.
Looked for about an hour, "ShortyGT-150" was his old user name.

Could you post a link Brandon ?

I remember bits and pieces of the flake problem on the deck, and think he did some glass work.
Seats were out of one of Andy's boats.

Boy that was a long time ago ... LOL

There really isn't much of a story to it. He put the flames on the deck to try and make the boat look better as it was a lot cheaper than re-gelcoating or painting the boat. He took it into White Bear boat works initially to have them belnd in some repairs/bad spots on the deck and wasn't happy with the results. Pretty tough to match metalflake gel-cote when it has had 30 years of weathering, fading, discoloring ect.

Now if the current owner finally takes those hideous backwards mounted rails off that don't belong on that boat, it will be worth another $500 bucks right there!.....LOL

Yes, that was my recollection as well.

I'm pretty sure that he rebuilt the floor, I can't remember if the transom & stringers were redone as well, but if you're fixing a bottom hole, you're likely pulling the floor up anyway...

Seems to me he had a buddy do the flames so he didn't have a ton a money into it. He fixed the wood structure and mechancials so they were solid when he sold it and lucked out getting that original interior out of Andys boat. Fix the metalflake and you would have a really nice Intimidator.

Looks like it got a new windshield at some point too. I know Shorty made a fiberglass one just to get by for a while.

Ha... the Timmi

http://s19.photobucket.com/user/shortyemcee/library/Intimidator?sort=3&page=1

Certainly were some corners cut due to money, but not in regards to anything structural or mechanical... just the cosmetic stuff

Ok, total basket case when I picked it up - in fact, EMS (New here, with the Bronze CV16SS) went with to pick it up

A large tree branch fell across the bow and cracked it... flake was faded beyond repair in SOME areas.

I did the floor in MTKA Jims shop :) Thanks Jim!

When it came time to deal with the gel, I bought matched flake - I sent a sample in to the company that made it for Glastron back then, and they matched it - I was going to re flake it myself (I've done a lot of automotive painting) but I chickened out and took it to White Bear Boat Works

(By the way, they are also responsible for the crack underneath... ground out and filled with filler - no mat - and it opened up, so I had to grind out a ton of material and layer biaxial and re-gel... but, I nailed the gel match... felt proud of that one)

Every time he sanded what he applied, he oversanded and hit the flake. It looked terrible. So, as a last ditch effort to make her look 'ok' I paid a buddy to do the flames as a cover up

The more bare location is where the decal of the knight was gonna go.... unfortunately I never had it made

I layered a broken windshield with blue tinted fiberglass matt/resin just to get by.... 68.1 MPH without a screen SUCKS! lol

There were corners cut due to $... like a used interior (THANKS ANDY!) It was actually in decent shape.
Also the gel.... I wish I would have just reshot it myself... I could have and I bet it woulda turned out pro ... I'm a good painter... I was just afraid that I might mess it up and burn $1000 in materials.... :(
The makeshift windshield.... blah blah blah

I agree if that boat was resprayed, and the interior re-upholstered, that is one sick boat.....

Hopefully some day I'll have a shot at another
