Very cool stuff!
Now, what would happen these days with tilt and trim (motor locked down) hitting a telephone pole? Off comes your transom and face?
When I was a kid, we had a cabin on Knife Lake. Excellent size lake for boating but man made and lots of logs and it would get very green from farm land run off...anyways we were on the "point" at the top of this map and about 2/3 way between us and the island near the bottom of the pic, there was what known as a "rock pile"
People that were unfamiliar with the lake would come flying into the bay, showing off to passers by on highway 65. We would run down to the end of our point to see if they hit it. When they did, it looked a lot like what was shown in the Vid hitting the telephone pole. It was entertaining for us as kids. This was in the 60's and it wasn't marked at all. We put a buoy out there one time but the ice took it away. Last time I was by there, maybe 15 years ago, it was marked. I know that the local Sportsman's Club had marked it years before. Who knows, if it was really a pile of rocks, it could have been dynamited and gotten rid of. Depending on water levels, it resided just under the surface anywhere from 2 feet to 6 inches. I don't know why, but getting anywhere near it always creeped me out. My brothers and I would occasionally motor out there in our fishing boat and stab at it with an oar. Maybe it was because I was 5 years old or something.
One time a boat was pulling a skier and hit it. Motor flew up, boat coasted to a stop and the skier ended up standing on it. Less then knee deep if I recall. Both he and the guy piloting the boat were dumbfounded and stunned. I don't remember how he got off of there.
I don't see anything in Satellite photos of the lake so maybe its gone. There used to be floating bog too. It would be in different places and people would hit that too. LOL
I think I need to make a point of taking a boat up there for old time sake. Jet would be better except for the weeds and an outboard....maybe with a depth finder.
