Deer
« on: May 31, 2014, 09:49:21 AM »
Nothing like hitting a deer at 65 pulling a boat! Doe popped out of no where. I caught the movement out of the corner of my eye about the same time the wife hollered. I shifted course 6-10 inches not wanting to jerk the wheel at speed. Ended up getting most of the head in the headlight assembly which in turn spun the body into the door. As the carcass crumbled the rear tire knocked it in the path of the trailer. The right wheel hitting the deer dead center, feeling that slight slow down/jerk and bouncing the trailer on one wheel. Shifted the the boat a couple inches on the rollers, but stayed put for the most part. We are both fine. Wife doest want to drive at night ever again. Got stopped easy enough. It was dark so thought we got away super clean with just the damage to the headlight area. Got to the gas station and saw the rest. Could have been so much worse! Didnt let it ruin the weekend, put 60 miles on the boat.

Yes it could have been worse. If you would have had a newer SUV beyond 2000 your whole RH side of the grill would have been shattered! Good thing you were driving the Last generation of Tahoe built to take a hit.

my only boat and deer story
driving the jeep, 78mph, the deer ran the course between the jeep and the boat, hit the boat. totaled it out, most of the deer eas sliding down the road just behind the boat, the front half, somewhat, was still hanging  on the gunwale of the boat ... not very profitable on my part, I was delivering the boat.

I kept telling the wife while driving away " .......it could have been a moose, elk or bear "! So glad it didnt get the boat! I go up to a little spot north of Hayward and consistently see 40-50 deer carcass on the road. Now I visualize somebodys vehicle getting messed up for every one of them. Its proving to be a real chore trying to find a rust free door up here. I want genuine GM over some china stamped 22 gauge junk. May have to start looking down south.
