cv 23 aluminum trailer cut down for cvx 18?
« on: July 13, 2014, 09:12:01 PM »
Hello to all you guys in MN, just wondering if this can be done. Can I cut down a cv 23 aluminum trailer to use with my cvx 18. It looks like from pictures I could remove the rear axle and remove some of the length and voila single axle. Sounds easy enough what do you guys think?

is the trailer in decent shape? If so I would possibly trade you a single axle trailer for your dual axel
I think this has become an addiction.

A trade sounds like the much better way to go.  You simply cannot remove 1 set from a tandem, you would have to replace the hangers and move the remaining axle to correct the weight balance.  It certainly could be done, but it would take some valuable time to make it right.

It looked great in the photos  a couple months ago, I'll try to call tomorrow and see if its still there. It had a good lookin 23  I was looking at until the owner cut out the bow and transom to make it a bow rider with a jet drive. anyway I'll let you know tomorrow. I think I can get it for 1k.

Is love an aluminum trailer as well. Trade or look for a single axle.

You could keep it a dual axle and just cut the length down some. Lotta the go fast boys round here have tandem trailers under 18 - 19' boats?

Is the 23 that was on it still available. Or would he sell some parts off it? I may be interested in a few parts depending on condition.

here are the pictures he sent to me of the tandem trailer and yes the boat would come with it. Trying to get recent pics. I know the hatch and the bow rail are gone from speaking with him today. I'm going to see how my cvx 18 will fit before I decide what I will do. What does your trailer look like? Is it an original  Aluminum Glastron trailer for a Carlson Cvx 18 or 20. The pictures make the boat look good but I don't think its in that good of shape. He said mercruiser transom was cut out to use with a jet set up( 455 /jet available separate) and the bow hatch was removed/glassed in.

I really don't think you'll get your 18 to fit. You'll have to slide those axles forward about 5'. Plus I don't think you need or would want a tandem trailer. You can't twist or turn the trailer by hand and you have more bearing and tires to go bad.

I can get a couple more pics of it but if you look at this thread it is the trailer that was under my 23 when I bought it. It is in overall good condition. I towed it back from Chicago with no problems

I think I misunderstood, I was thinking you had a single axle alum. Glastron trailer to trade.  I have a descent single axle steel Glastron trailer now. I want an alum. Glastron trailer for my CVX. If I can't find one I would keep the tandem Alum. Glastron trailer. The cv23 on it will probably be for sale.  I want an Alum. version of the steel  Glastron trailer pictured in my avatar.

Thanks
Tim
By the way you CV is awesome looking, I hope my CVX 18 turns out that nice!

Yeah I tend to agree. Not a good candidate for cutting down. Didn't realize it was a custom Glastron trailer. Thought maybe it was a generic alum model.

The factory trailer I have now is a good trailer but I just moved  3 driveways down from a marina/ramp on the ICW . The salt will eat the steel trailer. I would have to drive a ways to get back to fresh water. It would be a shame I think to ruin a good Glastron Carlson trailer. My previous Carlson had an Aluminum trailer.
I can buy an I beam Alum. trailer new, but I like the look of the factory trailer. I guess I'm reliving my youth :D

I noticed your on the coast and thought that might be the issue which would explain why your looking at an aluminum trailer.

Yeah I'm on the coast, but I really think its because of the memories of my other cvx sitting on the alum. trailer 8) These boats have such beautiful lines even sitting on the trailer.
