Are those Smart Tabs?  Did you contact Baja for placement? I have never tried self adjusting tabs, will be interesting.

Yes they compress. They're like gas shocks.

Yes. Smart Tabs. Contact BAJA?

Ya it'll be interesting for sure. Stay tuned

Does it matter where you put them?  I think I remember getting locations from Checkmate for mounting?

Instructions are kinda vague. Say mount at least 3 - 5 inches from the chine. Uh .. which one is it, 3 or 5? And that's about it.

They come with lots of impressive figures about how they cure everything related to misbehaving boats, but I've never owned a set.  Seen many hydraulic units that are controlled by the driver.  Interested in seeing how well they fair in your Baja, wonder if it knocks off a small amount of top end by increasing drag?

Okay, here's the report:

They do pretty much what they claim. With one glaring exception. No way do they increase top speed. I took a 4 mph hit top end. And I ain't havin none'a that!

One thing they do extremely well is keep the boat tracking straight @ idle. You notice that difference immediately.

Better handling/stability overall but you can still induce porpoising. Chine walk is reduced, but not eliminated.

Have to trim all the way in to get outa the hole. And the bow plows at first. Then when ya pick up a few mph the tabs relax and let the bow come up some.

Cornering didn't seem to be affected. Did some purty tight turns and I couldn't notice a difference.

These are the SX model with the middle of the road "shocks". Might cause less drag with the wimpier shocks, but then I bet some of your symptoms would return?

I can see where these things could help other boats with at least a couple problems. But on our boats boy I dunno. Might try to get my hands on some of the lighter duty shocks but for now I'm gonna take the tabs off.

More:

If ya get in shallow water when beaching? The tabs get stuck in the sand behind you, so you'll have to muscle the bow around.

I'm thinkin eliminate the shocks and get a couple turnbuckles, etc. And use em as fixed tabs. Just run em @ neutral for starters?

Maybe need a bit of tuning? Has several holes in the plate, would that change the performance?  Does the strut adjust or simply buy them in different values.  Could the struts be change to hydraulic cylinders?  Maybe use some turnbuckles that would set the trim tabs at an optimum fixed height?

If you left the struts set where they were when you picked them up they are set on the weakest preload for that shock. You could probably send those struts back to smart tab and they would send you the weaker preload ones for free. Especially if you tell them you screwed up and accidentally bought the wrong preloads. When they were on my boat I had them set on the middle hole and I lost top end because they were dragging in the water. When I set them on the weakest hole they no longer dragged and I got the same too end. Then they actually helped the boat plane faster because they reduced bow rise significantly. Everything you are describing says there is too much preload. By the eay I stopped off at your house and left 2 USB thumbdrives on your radio in the carport. The red one has the nee video, the one you gave me the other day did not have enough space to put the nee video on it.
