1976 Glastron V182

For those of you that helped me when I purchased this boat in the spring, thank you.  You were a big help.  I have turned it into a Lake Michigan Salmon Fishing boat(named Coho.com out of Kenosha, WI) and have had a blast all summer.  Many Coho, Chinook and Steelhead Trout have come over the gunnel.  It has not let me down yet.

I do have 2 questions.
First, the plastic on the hatch in front and top edge of the dash board has cracked I assume from being so old and brittle.  Does someone make aftermarket pieces(I would like to keep it as original as possible) or do I have to have some items fabricated?

Second, the 1985 115HP Evinrude runs like a champ.  However someone in its previous life stripped out then put a HeliCoil in the lower unit fill plug.  No matter how tight I make it, it still leaks slightly and I have to add to it every 10-15 hours.  Is there an easier fix here than fill and drill this winter?

Thanks again for all your help.

John

A helicoil should allow the fill plug to tighten well enough to not leak.  Check the sealing surface for roughness or gouging.  Secondly, check the sealing washer, some folks have lost or broken the correct washer and end up using an old ring or other plastic ring.  Plenty of other ways including drill and tap or weld in new bung, but I'd tear the drive down to do either.
