Social Distancing on I10
« on: May 04, 2020, 07:45:52 AM »
Been talking with previous two owners for a year. Wouldn't reduce price to what made sense. However, over a month ago we struck a deal but things have been on hold. However, as things are easing a bit, decided to do a little social distancing on I10 this weekend, TX - NM - AZ, then home. Clear sailing & no issues.  Kept to ourselves, little interaction with anyone and used precautions. Had short visit with our good friend Chris Kochmann... wish we would have thought of taking a picture!  Nice seeing you Chris!!!!

Nice to see you are out and about.
Yesterday Betty and I took a " Sunday Drive" along the St. Lawrence River, 1000 Island area.
It felt good to step out.

That something looks like a CV16 or something.

Yep, was just trying to have a little fun with it...

1974 CV-16, decent shape, been looking for a green 16 like this for a while, thought this one was a decent price.
- Original trailer made 1150 mile trip no problem (I brought tires with me, up to 103 degree heat on trip) but needs some love, and maybe some chrome dome hub caps.
- Dash was busted by thieves trying to get into a locked glove box (previous owner, with nothing inside) will need fixing.
- Tilt/trim is not working, went out when boat was last used about 5 years ago. Engine is roll of the dice, no signs of overheating.
- Floor/transom seem solid putting it to a little stress test, very clean in back and no cracking around splash well/engine.
- But can't see under replacement carpet to see if they did any work to floor.
- Metal gas tank was removed and replaced by resin tank (bone dry, gas lines cut to engine?), ski locker removed.
- Finish is pretty good, think it'll look nice when using the "Jeff Rockwell" method of 3M products (I'll have to do some studying).
- Would like to source the full length side decal

I was gonna guess 74 CV16 pickle rocket! Looks great! Are all 4 cushions there? That finish looks like ti will come out just fine.

Nice you met up with Chris too. I have not heard from him in a long time. Would be great to see him again. Does he still have his collection?

Cushions are there, just in back of truck so they don't blow out of boat going down highway. They are in good condition, little tearing and wear but in places you really can't see. I think so... very light oxidation, only couple small scratches.

Great visit with Chris, though it was short as we (my son went with me, he was big help!) needed to put many miles behind us. Got to see "It is what it is"... what a beautiful boat!  Also saw the 27 in the backyard, not up close. Also saw his 16 with the V8 Mercruiser that he's working on. We spent about an hour at his place. Really glad we coordinated a visit... told him it would be really good to see him at another meet in the future!

NICE lookin' Pickle Rocket !
Flake should clean up pretty easy ..
It's the two short board that make the "V" for the bilge bowel that are drilled to drain hull but weren't sealed.
Hole are few inches above floor and water pooled and splashed on resin coated bottom of floor.
Even covered in resin, think resin, my floor rotted thru.
Steve's Pickle Rocket had same problem.

Red arrow is drain hole
Green arrow is cracked glass over rotted wood where speedo pilot tube screws were.
Second picture is where wood soaked down and over to drain hole in bottom of transom.
