Weigh in time

Mine is a '78.  When I first saw the link I posted I wasn't aware the listed weights included the engine and drive source.  I know the average sbc ( which is what I have) in stock form weighs around 575 lbs.

I have intended to weigh my Scimitar several times to get an accurate weight, but I forget almost as many times as I think about it, but according to the brochure on the boat it weighs in approx 1850 pounds, that Does include the motor and drive, interior and a dry gas tank. I think the brochure is stated a little light myself, I estimate the weight of my boat lake ready, 16 gallons gas, is about 2200 pounds.  I have had my boat apart, split, and hanging from the slings in my shop, and was surprised that I could lift up either end of the upper half by myself. I don't think the whole upper half of my boat weighs more than 450 pounds. I have cut up a couple of the Carlsons into small sections, threw them in a trailer by myself to take to the dump, I can assure you the Carlson boats are very light in structure.

I believe the weight of a complete stock 350 Chevy motor is 540 pounds, including cast iron intake manifold, but, when you add the weight of the Quadrojet carb, water pump, dist, plugs and wires, oil & filter, alt, starter, motor mounts,flywheel, water circulating hoses, exhause elbows "y" pipe, cast iron certer rise exhaust manifolds, bell housing and coupler amounts to approx 253 pounds, the complete motor package weighs in about 793 pounds. The Mercruiser MR /Alpha drive with aluminum prop, and the complete transom assy weight is about 110 pounds, so whe you think about the total Mercruiser package, in my understanding, you are talking about a weight of about 900 pounds.

The engine/drive makes a huge difference. In the CV16SS the engine/drive is half the weight of the boat!

Funny that you mention half the weight Jason. Was thinkin about it & my 'rigging' might exceed the weight of the dry hull?

Motor: ~310#
Fuel(full): ~135#
Battery: ~50#
Cooler/beverages/ice: Variable ...  Heh heh heh

Oh well anyway the bottom line is when ya start puttin motors/outdrives on & in these things that's when their weight begins to climb ...


All very true but not a lot of fun without some propulsion.  :D

If I remember correctly, the '77 CVX 16 is around 750 lbs. dry weight. The 115 is about 307 lbs.  A friend of mine has a metal recycling business and has a truck scale that I plan to weigh the entire package on with a full tank of gas
