Tempo now Moeller
« on: October 16, 2011, 10:22:49 PM »
Not sure if this's big news or new news but Tempo is now owned by Moeller. Reason I know this is I was screwing the cap on my 6 gal tank & the sob broke/split right at the top of the threads? So I emailed them to see if I could get a replacement. Would ya believe they responded almost immediately and were very interested?

From what I read between the lines the origional cap is no longer EPA approved. And 'less I misread they're gonna send me an EPA approved replacement free of charge. What the?

That kinda stuff don't usually happen to me. "Silent" recall perhaps?

New gas cap in transit. WooHoo! I cain't 'member the last time I enjoyed customer service such as this?

I'm tellin' ya guys it was like, "Doug's gas cap is broken, we gotta get him a new EPA approved one asap!" I'm not kiddin' they responded to my email almost immediately and asked that I send them a pic of the broken cap.

Did so & they concurred that it was indeed broken ...  New improved approved one is on the way free of charge? YeeHaw!

My first guess is there's a Lawyer involved. Bet he's in the back room sorting the mail.

I had a similar experience with a 6 gallon tank.  The cap cracked so gas would leak out when filling something.  Saw a new replacement "auto-shut-off" cap and filler tube from the same manufacturer.  Was willing to buy the replacement at the store but first I thought I better call the company to verify the new cap would fit my 5+ year old tank.  They said it would fit and sent me the replacement cap for free.

I've got three Tempo tanks, two 6's and a 12 gal.  All three caps leak, who do you get in touch with?  We'll put them to the test.   :o  (Love the tanks, the caps are obviously a problem though.)

I'm in the process of ordering a below deck Moeller tank right now.  My new v-195 used to have twin 16 gallon tanks tucked into the seat bases of the back to back seats.  This wouldn't really be a problem, but that's a lot of weight riding high above the water line.  Not to mention if you drained one of the tanks, you had the weight of an extra person off to one side of the boat.

I just found a 25 gallon tank that will tuck into the centerline of the boat under the floor with some minor rebuilding of the centerline stringer.  It's 47"L x 18"W x 7.5"H.  It should fit in there nicely lowering the center of gravity of the boat quite a bit.  Quote was $284.59 from Boaters Outlet in Roseville.

Jerry: Ya Beth said the same thing.

Mark: I just emailed 'moellerinfo@moellermarine.com'. My contact is a Mrs Joy Weill.

Just got home to find Mrs Weill emailed me tracking info for the package. It's currently in Orlando. Weighs 8.2lbs btw. Hmm. That's a heavy gas cap?

Cool Brian! Ya anything one does to lower & center the CG helps stability and overall performance.

More I look at your boat more I see the sleeper factor. Go for it! Being a sleeper was what I loved most about my V153. During her brief tenure she humiliated more than her fair share of people who thought they had fast boats.

For what it's worth I'd hang onto that thing. Looks like a purty nice specimen. Go with the belly tank & then get on some motor tweaks? Heh heh heh

Sound like they sent a new tank to go with the cap?

I agree, Brian, that boat is going to be super nice when you're done, just a hunch!

Doug...  Remember that this boat had the stock 302 Ford with 190 hp.  BUT, then Carl got ahold of it and ramped it up a bit...  He believes that it should have between 300 and 320 HP right now.  We might just get it dyno'd now that we have it out of the boat.  It's running 55mph on GPS as of last year!

I don't think that there is much more that I can do to that motor without spending a good deal of money.  That's the reason that I bought the boat!  (For the motor).  :)

Look what arrived at the shop today. I ask to buy a replacement cap and they send me a whole tank, for free?! Unbelievable! Dunno 'bout you but I didn't think that level of customer service existed anymore? Simply amazing!

And a special thanks to the Law Firm of Dewey, Cheetum and Howe, for their prompt handling of this issue.
