Lost a buddy yesterday morning.
« on: January 17, 2012, 05:15:39 PM »
Good friend of mine was killed in a wreck on I 75 near Tampa early monday morning. Details are sketchy but the end result is confirmed. He's dead.

Bill was an experienced long haul trucker on his way to pick up a rig headed for the west coast. So I'd be a lil skeptical if it were deemed driver error. Please say a prayer for his wife Teresa & son Willy jr.

In a cruel twist of fate Teresa is my buddy Dave Stampers sister. You may remember me telling you about Dave's wife Carol dying recently from a stroke. Teresa and Carol were very close and now she's lost her husband. Dave and Bill were good friends too. Oh the irony.

Thanks folks. Yeah I reckon this funeral's gonna be a lil tougher than the last. Get to see a lot of the same sad faces, again. Not looking forward to it.

Yeah that's a great quote Jerry. Seen it before but now I'm gonna commit it to memory.

edit. Bill, Dave, Paul Bergeron & I played on the same dart team here in Venice for many years. Carol was our designated driver. Some of the stories about our team's antics circulate throughout the league to this day ...  Not all are factual and some have been heavily embellished.

I will admit a major part of our philosophy was to play darts as a contact sport. This included, but was not limited to, harrassment & intimidation of the opponent and/or their entourage. Got so good at it we started getting blamed for crap we didn't have anything to do with. For example we were once accused of kicking holes in a bar when we were 2 counties away?

Here's one that's legendary, and true: Dave was so plastered one night he stood up from the table and fell flat on his face. Got up, dusted himself off, and threw a ton. (Ton = 100 points)

Sorry to hear this Doug.
You never know when you're not going to see someone again so always try to part on good terms.

I lost 2 friends this summer. Both 50 and under and both to cancer. Horrible! Everyone should make an effort to remain in contact with the people that matter to them. We often do not. We get busy with our lives. But it doesnt matter much with an accident like this. Its sudden and unexpected and there is nothing you can do.
I've rambled enough.

Doug, sorry about the loss of your friend.

You never know when you're not going to see someone again....

That is the truth!

I lost my uncle unexpectedly this past fall.  He built high performance Chevy motors for hydroplane race boats.  He hated slow boats with a passion, which he shared with me and eventually led me to be a Glastron owner.  He used to own my CVX-16 and put the 175 motor on the hull only rated for 125.   8)

I make no apologies to the Ford or Mopar guys out there.  When a real man goes down, this is what you do:

I miss him terribly.

Well we planted Bill this afternoon. Funeral home did a heck of a job. Nicest service I've been to in awhile ...

Not claiming to be the voice of reason or safety or prudence or anything, but I suggest telling your loved ones you love them everytime you see em. Might not get another chance?
