For you OMC folks
« on: May 05, 2012, 10:00:26 PM »
Check out the new combination lifting eye/flywheel puller my buddy Billy Bob the welder cobbled up. Not sure I agree with his choice of color but I ain't complainin'. Only charged me $10 bucks?

You may lift with that Doug (get grade 8 bolts) but you will still need a wheel puller to get the flywheel off. You have to really wrap that nut on with an impact or you will sheer the woodruff key. I wouldn't use it. I weld 2 5/8 nuts together and weld a chain link on that and lift from the crank.

OMC (Bombardier) supplies special bolts with their flywheel puller.....they bottom out against the flywheel to be sure the pull is even. I have seen guys damage the threads using normal bolts due to the bolts not being wound in to the same length.

Well, that or some dumbazz following the previous's dumb azz's lead'n tryin' to thread a coarse thread bolt into a fine thread hole. It'll only go so far ...  Oh well that's why God invented taps'n thread chasers?

Tbh I've had purty good luck popping the flywheel(s) off with my slide hammer/dent puller. CAUTION! Remove nut on crankshaft before attempting to remove flywheel ...
