« on: May 06, 2012, 08:44:50 PM »
Mighty squirrely lemme tell ya ...  Sorry it ain't a Glastron, but we're working on it ...

Motor ran awesome. None of the previous top end bs. Me thinks there mighta been a lil chunk of crud bobbing around one of the the main jets? Thankfully it seems to have passed ...

Following that jump post you made on the myth busted thread, running speeds like that with the bimini up you could turn it into a hang glider going off Niagara Falls.

56 in a small boat is scary to me.  Maybe 'cause my kids aren't grown yet.

"Terrifying" is a more appropriate word. Just when ya get this tug wot'n trimmed out all hell might could break loose. Starts chinewalkin' like a sob. Comes outa nowhere, one second everythings fine'n the next, hold on!

Is "chine walking" a problem that doesn't exist in stern drive boats?  I'm guessing all the extra weight makes it a little more stable when up on plane.

I'm no expert but I believe chine walking is more prone to happen with ob's running elevated motor height? I'll tell ya something I felt way more comfortable in the V153 at speed then I do in this dang Baja. It's actually 3" shorter oal, bout a foot wider @ the beam, and got about 3 - 4 degrees less deadrise. Feels like a flying saucer sometimes? Still don't feel 'confident' at speed. She's always hinting she might wanna turn around'n head in the other direction. Well you know how women are ...

I think Jeff talked to taz about his speed runs in his cvx-18. I thought he said around 75 our 80 there is a three mph zone that it chines. Above that it is nice and flat. I can't speak from experience. Mine are too slow.  :P

Ask Barb if she has experienced a chine walk, the only time I saw her eye's get that big was when she lost a blade on Burnin Daylite @ 63mph ... LOL  looked like a hoot owl..

I always wonder if the guy in this video knows how close to death he's running, he's running the "shorty" ss drive behind a stroker ... and I'd be willing to bet he has a bit of slack in his steering somewhere

I've heard that too, if'n ya got enough horsepower'n sphincter strength I'm told you can power through the chine walk 'zone'(s)?

Yo Red I agree that Hammond looks purty skeery. Yikes!

Hey Gregg, one can only imagine what this 140 woulda done on the V153. I'd imagine early to mid 60's if'n ya could keep it stuck to the water?

I'm going to assume it its GPS. I'm sure when Jeff gets back from vacation he will chime in. You can look some of   Taz's videos up on YouTube.  Look up "Cvx-18 Taz". I've been on the lake that these videos were shot, it its not that big. Lake Miltona near Alexandra, MN. Actually saw the boat up on the lift. Two to three for chop all weekend, I'm guessing that is where it stayed.

I had hoped that with the 1988 115 HP Mercury on the V-153 to have reached 55 to 57 MPH with the right prop. Tom from the Twin Cities, reached over 60 MPH with a 115 HP Mercury on this CVX-16. Motor elevated, 24" Laser II, hull blueprinted. He is not in the Glastron group, just a chance meeting after a river run with Jason, Gregg, and myself. He was always experimenting and a stickler for details.

Relax Barb. If memory serves correctly Taz's rig has been breathed on purty heavy. If'n I'm not mistaken a shot or two of NO2 is included?

Don't beat yourself up or break your wallet. Repeat after me: "Shadow Girl, shadow girl, shadow girl ..." Walt's normally aspirated rig'll run 73 or so all day long.

Walts "shadow girl" ran 73mph once, no back seat, 5 gallons of gas, during testing, after that, dressed out, and a little more gas it run's a consistant 70mph with just him in the boat, according to Walt's own words I had in a phone conversation with him.   Barb's boat was running 73mph when she blew the 1.50 ratio drive I put on it, it was My Mistake to have the 1.32 drive made for it, that slowed it down some, but we plan on getting a 1.47 Gen II for that baby, will certainly put Burnin Baylight back into the mid 70's.

Just for the record ... "Red's Gold" ran a 78 gps with the new style 26 pitch PowerTech turning @5000 rpm when I was testing out the 387cid stroker.  The motor in Barb's boat pushed my scimitar 73's consistantly, with a boat load of soals on board, all we got to do to get her into the mid 70's is hook it up to the right drive and prop.
