Tips for an infrequent flyer?
« on: August 10, 2014, 03:00:00 PM »
Ain't been on a plane for awhile. Kinda skeered. Plan on checking 1 bag. I'm assuming one can pack a laptop, camera, GPS, batteries, SD cards, cables, etc?

What about medication. Do I need to do anything special?

The bag does lock. Good idea or not?

Yo Jim. Thanks for the cooler & lawn chair loan.

I beleive theres a limit on liquids, only so many oz. of shampoo, conditioner, stuff like that.
It also has to be in a clear container.
Check out the airlines web site for specifics.

Relax.  Everyone gets on and everyone gets sat down. Plane stays on ground until everyones on.  You will see a lot of wasted stress about all that. And I need to remind myself of this more than ever.

I don't carry on any liquids...check it.

Yes, you can check all that stuff...though, I'd leave the batteries at home.

Nothing special on the meds...don't lock the bag...if its locked, they'll break it open during screening.

I've flown twice the last 9 mos...I didn't do anything special...packed what I needed, checked it, no sweat.  Just know that you'll have to take your shoes off when going through the screening process.

Have a great flight.  I hate flying, don't sleep for a couple weeks before hand, and every time, I have a great, uneventful flight.

Been there...

I've ALWAY hated flying !
Get worse everytime I do it ...
Go to your Doc and tell him/her about it, after a half hour talk about addictions and how this medacation is the stuff they give to serial killers, they will give you three to five pills.
After taking pill, you wouldn't care if pilot did " Loop de loops " or " Barrel rolls " !
If fact you might ask him if you could " Give it a try " ... LOL

I fly almost every weekend for work, the 331 rule for liquids on your carry on 3 containers, 3 ounces, 1 bag. Not too bad, defiantly put batteries and laptop in a carry on bag, and you'll have to take the laptop out and put it in a separate bin when it X-rays, then remember to have easily removable shoes and belt cause they wanna put you into a millemeter wave machine and blast you with radiation until your skin melts from your flesh and you crumble into a pile of ash.... Nah it's not that bad just listen to what they say and everything will be fine.

I've spent far too much of my life in the air, if you have time, then check a bag.   If your a frequent flier, and want to avoid the bag pick up then its a separate set of rules.  Easiest way to de stress  flight, show up early and take your time.  I prefer window seats to throw in the earbuds and crash.  If you plan to carry on, then 3 oz liquids in a 1 gallon bag is the rule.  I carry a split backpack that folds, so I do not have to pull the laptop out.   I personally would not check a PC, but even when I carry it on, I rarely take it out during flight.   Do not be in a hurry, and be nice.  It always works for me, other passengers do not get there any faster.   Good luck and safe travels.

Keep feeding it more power.  Eventually you will feel it pop out of the water and plane along the top.  From there you can adjust your trim to really get it flying.

throw in the earbuds and crash.
You could've phrased that a lil better ...

Speaking of buds I reckon it's best to leave those at home ...?

Anyway. I guess I'll carry on a bag vs check it. Measures 14 x 20 x 7 so it oughta fly ...  Less confusion I spose. Plus that way nobody can steal my chit. And if nothing else it'll be entertaining trying to cram everything back in after the friendly TSA folks rifle through it?

Fwiw I don't mind flying. I've flown in my barnstorming cousin Pat's small plane up in Brooksville. If that don't put the fear of god into you I don't what will. Commercial flights are a cake walk compared to that.

Pack light Doug, there's a Walmart & Target in Red Wing if you need anything.
Motel will have soap, shampoo, etc.
If you soil yourself in Jeff's 18, you can always buy new shorts!

If you plan on packing while your away check handgunlaw.info for the latest on the laws of the state you are flying to/may have lay-overs in. Check with the airline on their check in policy's too. You can bring a small amount of ammo in a checked bag but remember the bags need to be under 50#. Next time I fly I hope to bring a pistol. You should be able to load it and start carrying as soon as you leave the secure zone. I have heard some people like to disable their pistols before packing them. No need to make it an easy shooter.

Have a safe flight.

Doug, I am looking forward to meeting you after all our boating related conversations.

My peace offering (not that it's needed) is your choice of a brand new, unworn steel company cap, either Sugar Steel, McNeilus, or West Central Steel.

When you say infrequent flyer, you must mean airplanes, not Baja boats.

It's cool with the airline Fuzz. Unfortunately neither MN or WI recognize a FL CCW.
