Other possibilities and ideas:  Change fuel diaphragm, shoot Mercury Power Tune into carbs while engine is running.

How old is the fuel ?
How old is your fuel line / primer bulb ?
Mix up lots of Sea Foam & gas run for a bit, let sit over night and hope it loosens up some deposits in carbs.
Tilt motor up, pull plugs, squirt Deep Creap (Sea Foam in spray can) into each cyl. at or near TDC , rotate motor and spray other cylinders.
Might want to do it if few time over a few days, start motor and admire huge white smoke clouds after starting motor.

Did you get link I sent you for manual ?
Do a "Link & Sync".

COOL !
A CVX built in 1976 ...
Must have been one of the first produced.

Well... as far as fuel, i was told it was fresh... i was told a lot of things... time to go to work

I use StarTron in all my boats and it helps clean out the carbs usually.
I think this has become an addiction.

Had some good luck with sanding!

I can truely say this is the first time i've made a mediocre boat come out amazing! Went after the stern on the port side. Used 3m wet dry sandpaper. Started with 400 then 800,1000, 2000. Finished with 3m rubbing compound and finally McGuires finishing polish.  I'm very pleased!

Ran a good amount of Mercury Power tune thru the 3 carbs. Also put a good amount of Mercury Quickleen in the fuel. Plan to take it out again this week to see if running a decent amount of fuel thru it will help.

Best to try the easy stuff first, power tune, sea foam, fuel treatment, empty/use up old fuel, etc.
See if things improve.
Looks like some bad wires in first picture, which could add to problem.
I also run StarTron in all my fuel, have seen it keep gas "Good" for over a year !

Flake looks GREAT !
Remove a cleat or bow light and see how close to original you got it, bet it's very close ...

On Tim's(Makinwaves) TOP 115, we had to replace the whole engine harness, every wires insulation was brittle and crumbling.   They are available, hopefully he could post some info where he obtained his, or maybe someone on here knows as well.   Do it before it shorts out and takes out expensive stuff like the stator and rectifier or worse yet a fire.

I think it's actually a '76 but I'm not certain.  The last 2 numbers of the Hull ID are 76, but it's registered as a '77.  On the Carlson factory photo's page, we don't have the CVX-16 factory images, but the CVX-20 came in blue on blue.  The 1977 CVX-16 also came in blue on blue, so I'm assuming it's a '76 based upon the hull ID...
There was some transitioning in 76.  (seat arrangement I think)  They always started the new models in July or sooner.  But don't know when the serial number was advanced.  According to your's they put 76 on until Jan of 77.

I was wrong...  The last 3 numbers of the hull ID are 77G  I mistook the G for a 6 the first time that I looked at it.

So...  it's not a one of a kind prototype.  Just a regular old 1977.  Oh well...  The story was good!

Thank you VERY MUCH Gregg for locating that wiring issue.  I looked at it tonight when I got home, and it's BAD!  I've already ordered a new internal harness.  It was $140 for the aftermarket and $200 for the OEM.  I actually sprung for the OEM.

Should be fun to try to swap out!

It's actually pretty easy, worst part was getting the molded multi pin plug bolted in place.  We cut the old connections wiring off to leave an inch or two to see the wire color, then swapped out the connections.

On a new to me (old motor), I spray down carbs and fuel lines with starting fluid so everything is clean and dry.
Take boat out for a run, then look at fuel lines, are they wet or dripping fuel in any areas ?
If so, they are old and need replacing. Motors that old weren't designed for the fuel we have today and rot from the inside.
Plus there over 40 years old ...

Trick with the Sea foam is to run a strong blend, let it (Sea foam/fuel mix) sit in carbs float bowl over night, might want to do this a few times, hoping it will dissolve sludge and oil deposits in bowl and jet orifices.
I mix a very strong batch in a gas can and run it off a fuel hose with out a quick connect on the other end.

Two strokes HATE water, so drain fuel tank and run it in your lawn mower, weed whipper, etc.

If you can carefully get out the metering jets and hold them up to the light they may be jelled up.  Use  a small wire or drill bit to clean.  Sometimes transparent  to see through.  If you can see then you'll know it was the problem.
