Title: Historical Glastron information
Post by: Jason on September 19, 2018, 12:27:50 PM
I've always wanted to see a model breakdown for Glastron like you see for cars on Wikipedia. Here is my attempt at it for Carlson. This all based strictly on the brochures. We all know that what really happened may stray from the brochures. Let me know if you see anything that doesn't make sense.

Some day I may attempt to do the same for the Glastron models.

You learn some pretty interesting things as you go through this. How models seem to disappear from the brochures one year then are back the next. Name changes.

1960 likely to be the first year of Carlson boats but no brochures have been found from 1960-1962.

Look at the CVX16. Originally called the CXV16 in 1977, dropped for 1981, revived in 1982 but renamed SS-CVX-16, Then back to CVX16 in 1983, remained that way till 1989 when it became a 16CSS for 2 years, name changed to "16 Carlson" for 1991, then to wrap up it's last year in existence was renamed back to 16CSS in 1992.

CV23 to CVX23 to 23CSS

Corinthian to Conquest

Models only made one year:
CH-16
Charger (probably the rarest Carlson IMO)
CVC18
CV19 Outboard
C-535
33CSS
CSS24

Many thanks to Gregg for keeping an excellent library of brochures and knowing where to look.

Don't forget the Glastron / Molinari 2+2 !
No one has ever seen one, aside from this picture ...

I debated about the Molinari. Had it in there. Then took it out. Not really a Carlson as it's a Molinari design but I am sure there are certain features like badging that may have made it unique. I added it back in. Would be cool to see in person....if any exist anymore.

if you're only tracking Carlson's...any Glastron-Molinari wouldn't meet your criteria in my view.  The Molinari is an Italian hull imported by Glastron.  Carlson's have no relation to them.

My 16 was a 1980 CVX-16 SS.  I can find a bow picture for reference if you need one for a collection.

Good point .. Though built in Anahiem they were Glastron / Molinari's not Glastron / Carlson's.

Tim C. Dad's Timmi is a 1983.
Would bet there was a 1982 CVX18 also.

Good stuff Jason.  I remember when the 1981 Carlson brochure came show casing the new Metric series of boats.  At the time i thought they were hideous! I couldn't believe they dropped the CVX-16 and CVX-18 from the line up.  It didn't take long and consumer demand brought back both boats in a short period of time.  As time has passed i think the Metrics are some of the coolest Carlsons ever made.  I still have the brochure.

I've seen two of these 1991 Carlson 16CSS Limited Edition's.
One in north east and this one in north west, ad is gone now.
I've talked with the owner in north east who still owns his and he had never seen another one.
He said his looks just like one in ad.
It has the grab bar running down center of deck and a center counsel in same gray color as dash.
Looks like the center deck grab bar is on 1992 16CSS's

This listing is gone now ...

This has been on my mind and I guess now is a good time to ask it,

I see Jason you have down the CSS24.
The CSS 24 looks to be an exact resemblance to the new carlson/matise boat that was brought to the meet in 2017.  (Sorry I do not know the official model name) Anyone confirm or deny this theory?  I am guessing the hull was resurrected for the new carlson/matise model?

I think it is the same mold. I remember John Carlson saying something about that last summer. I believe John also said Art was doing contract work for other boat manufactures in the 90-00's. Look at the Fountain Carlson 33. I believe there are some Starcrafts as well.

The CV23 was first supposed to be named CVC23. The CVC 18 must have been the prototype.
