Motor's super clean inside. Doubt it spent much time in salt water.

But those dang high ring pistons gotta go.

Appreciate you posting the info, looks similiar to my rude 115.  I'll need to pull mine apart to re ring(low compression), hopefully I can pick up some pointers following your build.

'79 115 that was on Ron's CVX16 when he got it. Plan is to cut the exhaust bridge and add bubble butt tuner. Have some '83 hi comp heads. Swap intake, carbs and ignition from the 112 special. Add Carson reeds and let her rip.

Was that in English Doug?  Looks like I have a whole bunch to learn about outboards, but honestly, if it ran reliably, I'd be happy.  BTW, my OB is a 77 115 rude.

They're pretty simple Mike. Best thing you can do is invest in a factory manual. Be interesting to see what exhaust tuner your '77 has on it.

I'll get a manual on order soon.  In the VW world the Bentley manuals are best over a cloyes or Haynes, what publisher of rude manuals is best, or did the factory off them?

I'd get a 'factory' OMC manual. Wish Haynes had 'teardown and rebuild" manuals for outboard motors. Far as I can tell they don't. The Clymer, Seloc stuff is okay. But it's crap compared to the original.

I'm told Boatinfo.no has pdf's of stuff.

Well we got the gearcase off. But the powerhead to mid joint appears to be suffering from 'separation anxiety' ...

Did yours have one or two water pipes off the pump?
