Any info on this CVX 20 ?
« on: April 09, 2019, 09:01:15 PM »
Has anyone seen this boat in person ?  Any comment on if this is water ready, needs minor work, or is a rebuild.  Been for sale a few summers.  Olds 455 is my favorite motor.

From pictures ..
Flake looks great.
Vinyl looks good and is either original or exact style of a 1976.
Price seems reasonable.
No holes cut, even for windshield and bow light …

Yes, I like the vintage original-ness too.  This boat is a 7 hr one way drive for me.  Just trying to avoid (another) long trip only to discover a $7900 boat with soft floor or 4000 engine hours or non road worthy trailer.  Lol, has happened to me several times trying to buy one of these Glastrons.  Thanks!

Have the seller do a walk around video for you. Show you floor and transom are solid, flake is good, maybe even fire it up.

Finding a 40 plus year old boat with no wood rot wouldn't be easy.
Scott was able to replace floor without removing deck and I think transoms on jet boats can also be replaced without deck removal ..
Pictures missing from his floor replacement thread, but some of his ..

This boat looks very nice and original.  Very rare to see a bone stock CVX less less hardware (stern rails, windshield, lights).  A unique boat indeed.

The 1976 CVX20 jet was penciled in at bottom of the 1975 Price & Spec sheet.
The 1976 Glastron P.I.G. lists "No Options"

" No windshield. No cleats. Just the wind at your face ! "

Any info ?  "Pumper Rat" painted on the front.  I recall seeing this boat on the forum before.  Motor has a bunch of comp cams decals and a boat motor shop sticker.  Wondering if the motor has been worked.  The seller doesn't know.

A tribute to "Big "Daddy" Ed Roth and his artwork with 50-60 hot rods.  Now the 455 is not technically a "Rat", a term generally used to describe the big block Chevy.  Small blocks are "mouse" motors.  The 60's Hemi's were Elephants.  In any case Ed's art is both timeless and synonymous with hot rod culture.

Thanks - I do think the graphic is cool.  I was just wondering if the history of this boat was known.  Was in the Michigan area for many years.  Someone kept in nice condition.  Boat is 7 hr ride for me.  Current owner says boat is as-is, no facilities to run boat....  Pay $9000 and tow it away. ::)

No facilities to run the boat, isn’t the boat in Michigan?  As for the drive, I drove 600 miles, one way, last year to go look at an Intimidator I was told was “water worthy”. The transom and stringers were both shot, and he knew it. Sometimes I wish I would’ve walk away, other times I’m glad I didn’t. At least when I hooked up to the trailer to pull it home, I knew what I had. Good luck in your search. Isn’t there a nice CVX-20 in Minnesota that’s for sale?

$9000.00 is only reasonable if the boat is solid, the CVX-20 being one of the more desirable of the Glastrons.  It's a quandry that many of us have faced.  Just a suggestion, can you do some research on local Marina's or companies offering boat inspection services?  Maybe consider a weekend getaway, many airlines have deeply discounted fares especially if you travel on odd days.

Lot of pictures on eBay …

Holes for little hood scoops and radio.
Vinyl not original, but looks to be OK shape.
Cracked windshield.
"  little hard stating last year, needs carb rebuild, NO test drive "   Red flag !

The blue one was a better gamble .. LOL

1976 Glastron carlson CVX 20 / Mahopac, New York / $9900
https://www.ebay.com/itm/264293310690?ul_noapp=true

This is a 1976 Glastron Carlson CVX 20. I searched around for years to find one of these. Now I don?t have time for it. It has a 460 Ford engine and a Berkeley jet drive. It also has a electric/ hydraulic place diverted, that allows you to throw a huge rooster tail behind you. The boat has its original metallic gel coat on it, that?s in very nice shape. There is some artwork painted on the top of the front of the bow that could be polished off, but I chose to leave it. The windshield has a crack down the center thats not very noticeable. It has its original interior that?s in nice shape. The hull is also in very nice shape. It comes with its original trailer, that?s in really nice shape.  The boat runs and operates very well, but it was a little hard stating last year. I think the carburetor should be rebuilt. This is a very nice CVX 20, that?s a very hard to find model. Please don?t bid unless you are serious about buying it and are able to pick it up

The shopping continues !  The challenge of finding a 19' 20' 21' Glastron jet is the same for the other boats in this category, Baja, Checkmate, Sidewinders.

How about Tim's CVX18 ?
Everything's done .. and done right !
Very nice boat .. He did all the hard work.
I helped him buff it out few years ago .. Boat is as nice as pictures show.

1986 Glastron Carlson CVX 18 - $8700 (Red Wing
https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/dak/boa/d/red-wing-1986-glastron-carlson-cvx-18/6874047748.html

The boat was structurally rebuilt with new stringers, transom, floor, flotation boxes and carpet. I have full picture documentation of the rebuild. The interior is the original (minus the carpet) vinyl in good condition with just two seams that have separated on the captain's seats. Two covers, one being a cockpit and the other is the original trailering that has "Glastron" embossed on it.

$8700 obo.
Thanks

Yes, very nice boat.

I've had sterndrives and outboards.  Next boat has to be big block jet!
