Oil change method
« on: December 24, 2017, 06:42:51 PM »
My CVZ-18 has the oil extraction line reinstalled last spring 2016, after I realized what a mess draining in the bilge  ended up.   My set up uses a flexible steel line with a male hose connection similiar to a garden hose. Connects similiar to a banjo fitting on the drain plug.  It's designed for a direct connection, not a line snaked down the tube.  So I've been using a 5 gallon bucket and vacuum pump, hose, and some adapters with mild success.   Well, it works, but takes awhile.  So I've been cruising sites for something better.  Seems there are manual pump types, electric pumps, and air driven.  What do you folks use?  Any recomendations?

I use a 3 gallon electric pump bucket that has a hose that goes on the dipstick tube. If the engine is warm it will take out the oil in about 30 seconds. This type works best if the dipstick tube goes all the way to the bottom of the oil pan, a lot of older engines don't have deep tubes.

This is the one I use:

I just use a Fumoto valve with a snap on tube out of the drain plug...no fuss or mess.

The unit you posted the link to Rich is very similiar to what I've been looking at.  If that can pull out up it's own tube, then I see no reason it couldn't do the same through the tube I have installed.   Is is safe to assume Doran, that the hose you attach to the valve is routed out the bilge drain hole, so gravity only?

Yep, no tools, connect the hose, take off the security clip, open and drains out the back.  Zero mess.

This is an older style, but gets the process across.
