Title: GT-150 Jump Location
Post by: Plugcheck on September 12, 2019, 02:11:25 PM
Well, I'm headed back to the bayou for work again, last trip I tried to do a little research, but the best location for the jump I came up with was hwy 39 at crawdad bridge.   I talked with the folks that put on the video presentation at the meet concerning the jump, but I can't remember their contact info.    So what I'm looking for is a map or GPS location where they filmed the GT-150 jump for "Live and let die". Maybe someone knows or remembers this info?   Sorry, only somewhat Glastron related.  Thanks, Plugcheck

Hi Michael.  Here are a couple of the pictures I made for our video that I put together. The jump occurred over Harlem Ln.  Have to take the ferry across to the east side either north or south of the site.  I went across on the north and returned over the south then up along river. Have to check their crossing times however, as I seem to remember that the south ferry stops earlier? I have a couple contacts in the area if you wish to speak with someone that was there during the actual jump in the movie.

This is what it looks like today. The fishing community is gated & locked. You can see the jump site as you drive down Harlem, but can't get past gate to actually stand at jump spot itself unless someone lets you in. Glyn and I visited the site in spring 2017 and interviewed 3 eyewitnesses of the actual jump. Here we are at actual ramp location (that's the boat chase approach/north side). Several hurricanes have dramatically changed the landscape over the years (road crossing has been graded down), and the last one ripped up the boat ramp (it was still there till recently). They hauled off the mangled pieces so can't see boat jump ramp anymore.

Thanks so much for the info, I'll be in the area for the week, beats sitting in a hotel.

Hey Mark, thanks for the history lesson.
haha...  it was a lot of fun to visit. As Michael said, beats sitting in a hotel room!  If you're ever in the area, it's worth a few hour exploration!  There is a bar & grill at Venice Marina, close to the ferry crossing to the south, was kind of neat & good food if it works into the plans.
