Youngest son's first day driving any boat with vids
« on: July 10, 2014, 08:33:22 AM »
Took my youngest son, 15, out yesterday for his first boat driving session.  Went very well, he even docked it, and we had to circle a bit until the ramp lane was clear.  Perfect weather, Lake was great, boat ran great, very good day on the water.

Way to go! It gets better and is more fun each and every time you go out. Never stop learning. A great Skipper is one that's humble but experienced.

Nothing better than getting youngsters into boating. Teaches them much more than just 'driving the boat'.

My Niece is gettin purty good at it.

For better or worse I don't have any kids. So my nieces & nephews have to do. Good part about that is you don't have to live with them. You can get rid of em at the end of the day.

Funny story about that pic: It was Madison's first time driving under the bridge. Then all the horns & bells sounded cuz a big boat was coming. She freaked out at first but my bro talked her through it.

They told her what a good job she did and how smart & 'special' she is, etc, etc, ad nausea. As parents do. Back at the ramp the knucklehead walked off the end of the dock. Just mindlessly stepped over the edge? Kerplunk! Then she totally freaked out cuz she was in that scuzzy ramp water. My Niece the genius ...

Old pic of her neutering Uncle Doug:

edit. I couldn't get the protective pillow in place fast enough. She was too quick ...  (Oompf!!!)

That's funny!  I have 5 offspring, 3 boys and 2 girls, 3 moms  ::).  The first one kneed me there pretty good once so the next 4 were easier to fend off so to speak.  Oldest is a Son, now 36.  Next one down is 33 year old daughter.  Next is 29 yo son, then 17 yo daughter and this 15 yo son.  12 grandkids between me and the wife now.  I had a stint from the 1980's until 2006 with no boats, so not all have had this opportunity.

Here is one of the granddaughters swimming off the platform and my daughter hanging out on my "other" boat, between this and tubing we always have a good time...
