Title: Transom dimensions
Post by: Dwilliams on September 21, 2020, 09:57:58 PM
Hi, I am restoring my CV16SS,  I replaced the floor and the transom.  I am changing over to a Mercruiser outdrive from the Volvo Penta.  I am looking for the dimension from the bottom center of the v to the centerline of the crankshaft.  I have laid it out with the recommended dimension from Mercruiser, before I start drilling and cutting I want to double check what Glastron actually used.  If I use the Mercruiser dimension the motor sticks up pretty high above the transom.  It looks a lot higher then what I see in pictures of CV16SS's.

Thanks, Dave

Looks like there was a Volvo / Glastron motor cover and a Mercruiser motor cover.
You would need a Mercruiser cover.
The CV16V8 had a whole different deck and cover.

I don't know where your X dimension should be.
There's a member changing from Volvo to Mercruiser, but going with a newer V6.

These are a few pictures of a Ford 302 mocked up in the CV 16 V8 that I am currently rebuilding. This is at the Merc cruiser suggested X dimension. Looking at photographs of Cvs 16s and how the MerCruiser transom assembly lines up on this one I don’t think it could be raised very much higher without going over the top of the transom.

Here are some pictures of my mercruiser 140. If you need me to measure anything let me know. The front mount sits on a 3/4" pad on the floor.
