Trailer Rims
« on: June 15, 2011, 09:34:44 AM »
Ok...I'm in a mad dash.  The tires & rims on Goldie's trailer are junk...I think somone put Explorer rims (right?) on his trailer, and I know there's a specific bolt pattern...but what should I be asking for?

I'm going to either to a set from CL or we have a decent salvage yard down here that I can get a pair from...hopefully with some decent tires.  Otherwise, I'll be putting a set of tires on rims I don't want!

I know I can get a set from Northern Tool, but I'd like something to give the trailer a good look.

Why don't you swap the ones off the 19?  ;D

Cuz it has car tires on it!  Plus...those keys on the rims are a PITA...I also don't like how they bury the bearing buddies in the rim hub.  Rather have them out in the wind so they can cool better...

That would be a good option.  You'd likely be able to get the same $500 for the trailer under Goldie or at least close to it.  Aside from that, Rims are going to cost you around $50 each if you buy them new.  Trailer tires alone are going to run close to $100 each and buying a used set you are likely not going to get a lot of wear out of them. I paid $80 each for the trailer tires under Mayberry but put conventional auto tires under the CV-21. You store inside your garage mostly don't you?  I think you would get a lot of years wear out of conventional tires. Sitting is their worst enemy.  That and Sunlight.  I have covers on all my tires and they help a lot.

Yes, Goldie & Bluebell are stored inside.  For Fall-Spring, the trailer is up on blocks to keep the weight off the tires as well.

I found a guy on CL selling 2 rims with new Carlisle tires on them for $130.00 for the pair.  Hoping to check them out tonight.

Has anyone seen that trailer?

Actually, that trailer has some decent rust climbing up the back...I think I'll stick with mine, mine has side roller guides (+ the same rust) that I'm excited to have...well, I'm excited for my wife to have anyway!   ;D

I never do the loading...I'm on trailer backup duty.

Well, pretty sure they're the standard Northern Tool, 5 bolt, 4 1/2 circle pattern.  These are the rims on the trailer now...only rusty!  (The different height tires are a nice touch...)

Are they 4 1/2 or 4 3/4
I beleive I had discovered when going thru all this before that they seemed to use ford bolt patterns alot.
The used wheels I picked up were unilugs and once were on a Cougar. DONT buy unilugs unless  you get the correct washers and lugs with them. Too much of a hassle making custom ones like I did.
I believe they are 14x7
