I have some pictures of wheels but if anyone has a good shot of there wheel, please post along with year and model.

1970
Glastron / Carlson .. Contender, Challenger, Conquest, CV16.
Metalflake plastic rim in boats color, chrome spokes and center cap.

1971
CV16 and Challenger still had metalflake rim to match boat color, like 1970 style.
The 1971 CV19 and CV21 have Mercury Ride Glide square shaft wood (plastic ?) rim and metal spokes, with chromed cap.
1972 style wheels look the same as 1971 wheels and are used on all models / CV16, CV16SS, CV19 & CV21.

Wheels were the same as past years.
CV16, CV16SS, CV16V8, CV18SS, CV19 & CV21

All 1971 thru 1975 CV21 & CV19 are listed as "Mercury Ride Guide" so cap might have ride glide sticker.
Mercury Ride Glide would have the square shaft on older versions.
Thay also have a splined shaft version.

The CV18SS is listed as using a "Morse Command 200" helm.
Helm has keyed taper shaft.

1976
Wheel changed to a light tan colored rim with solid chrome spokes and a tan colored center cap.
All helms are listed as Mercury Ride Glide. I think all were now keyed taper shaft helms.
My 1976 CV16 has this wheel and is keyed taper shaft.
CVC18 is listed as having a Morse Command 200 helm.

Same wheel as 1976 on all models.
Most are listed as Morse Command 200 system.
Except CVX20 Jet which is listed as Mercury Ride Glide.

Same style as 1976 & 1977
Listed as Morse Command 200 on most.
Except CVX20 Sprint which is "Dual Cable Mechanical" and CVX20 Deluxe Jet which is "Mechanical Rack & Pinion".
CV23 I/O and CV23 HT I/O are listed as "Power Steering"

Not sure about 1979 wheels ..
CV27 had a "Destroyer" style wheel.
CVX16SS I can't make out if there square or round holes in spokes.
CVZ18 has 1976 / 1977 wheel.
CVZ19 has square holes in spokes.
CVX16, CVX16 Deluxe, CVX16SS, CVX18 are listed as "Mechanical"
CVZ18 is listed "Mercury Rack & Pinion" / "OMC True Course"
CVZ19 is listed "Rack & Pinion"

Had square hole spokes CVX16 and CVX20 Jet. Only one's I could see.
CV27 Had Destroyer wheel.
Bass boats and SSV169 Sprint have all black, round hole spoke wheel.

The Scimitar & CV23 had the wood/plastic rim, chrome spokes with square holes and chrome cap.
The C500, C512, C537, Ski Machine & Intimidator all had the small black rim, black spokes with round holes and chrome center cap.
There aren't any good pictures of CVX18 Cal. Spl. or CVZ18, CVZ19 to see what they had.

C500, C512, C535, C537, Ski Machine & Intimidator all had the small black rim, black spokes with round holes and chrome center cap.
Not sure what CVX18 had.
One of our members has this one (bottom picture) in his 1982 CVX16.

Scimitar & CV23 had the wood/plastic rim, chrome spokes with square holes and chrome cap.
CVX17 & CVX18 had the small black rim, black spokes with round holes and chrome center cap.
CVX16 has plastic wheel bottom two pictures.
No picture of Ski Machines wheel.

CV23 has a chrome rim and spokes with round holes and a 1976 style center cap. SV191 has same wheel.
Can't see wheels on CVX20 Ski Machine and Sprint.
CVX16, CVX17, CVX18, Intimidator Have a new style black four spoke wheel with black center cap.
Although some have the Glastron style wheel (Bottom picture of CVX17 for sale on CL)
CVX16 & CVX17 are listed "Mechanical"
CVX20 Ski Machine and Sprint are listed "Dual Cable Mechanical"
CVX18, Intimidator, CV23 are listed "Power Steering"

Can't see CVX16 wheel, CVX17 has 1984 four spoke style.
CVX18, Ski Machines, Sprint, Intimidator & CV23 Have a new style Black (maybe) leather rim, Three black spokes with oblong cut outs and black center cap. The cap is different from the next years style. Look at center cap.
CVX16, CVX17 are listed as "Mechanical"
CVX20 Ski Machine and Sprint are listed "Dual Cable Mechanical"
CVX18, Intimidator, CV23 are listed "Power Steering"

The one's pictured have the 1985 / 1986 wheels.
Dave's CVX16 and a lot of the 1987 Glastron's have the black rim, oblong spoke cut outs and a different style center cap.
Two (Red & Blue) 1987 CV23's have this emblem in center cap.

A old square shaft wheel can be converted to a keyed/taper shaft wheel.

There’s a few options: you could just use a different wheel entirely. Detmar made the later style wheels and made several hub styles, but they all relied on a 3 screw system to hold the spikes to the hub. Some hubs had interchangeable adapters. A little use of some plate and you can modify your old wheel to use the new style adapter. Lots of possibilities.
The adapter you posted (first picture) above is what I would do if I didn’t have all these parts. I’d place that inside of the old plastic hub, drill and tap where needed, and the only other mod you would have to do is make the G center cap removable. Adhesive backed strong magnets would be perfect.

Ride Guide rack cable installation info.

CV-19 original ride guide steering cable length. 17ft. 6 in.
Cables are marked close to cable end. Can use 18 ft. cable,
but will have to loop it at the engine end.

1981 Metric series steering wheel from C500S / C512S models
