Silver Streak prop
« on: November 29, 2011, 11:28:52 PM »
Anyone have any experience with the OMC Silver Streak prop? Somebody in my town has one for sale for $125 for a 13 3/4 x 23 pitch.  I can turn my 12 3/4 x 21 SST at 5600 and get 50 - 51 mph on the GPS. Wonder if I'd be able to turn this small hub with my 115 for a little more top end.

Ask the seller of the prop if you can test it before buying it. People are not buying props at this time of year. Just make sure you do not damage it while testing. I did a word search of "OMC Silver Streak" to get some history of the prop, but there are no definite answers its value to you without testing it.

I have run the Silver Streak (sstrx) on several hulls from 13' Pacecraft to 16' Marlin Scorpion......Based on what your sst is doing I would expect you could swing the RX as it ability to produce bow lift should help reduce wetted surface enough for you to regain the rpm you will lose in the pitch increase. What hull are you running? The Scorpion is a 640 pound hull and ran middle 5000's at I think 56 mph with a 1977 115 Johnson. I do not think they were ever produced in anything but 23 pitch, if it is in nice condition I will buy it for 125.00 if you do not like it. Where are you located?  Some hulls will respond better than others to the over hub exhaust and "chopper" style of these props.

Ya I think I'd be all over it. Paid more than that for mine? I have a 13 3/4 x 23 'SRX' #390750 (same prop?) Great wheel for top end, but ain't worth squat for much else.

Little bit of finesse required when running one of these. Regardless of trim angle it will blow out coming hard outa the hole. But once ya get it hooked up, hold on. Midrange acceleration is breathtaking.

Your setup oughta swing it. If not raise the motor a hole ...?

Regarding that midrange acceleration, I have one RX with the blades thinned and the leading edges "rolled" (sort of cupping the leading edge) and that really wakes this prop up....It is very strong accelerating from 30 on up.

I run a 27p SRX prop on my boat.  Great prop.  Better performance than a chopper.  Here is a video from holeshot until top end.

I'm suffering with the weather here too in NY.  It's not even snowing enough to use my snowmobile either...
