Took a closer look....both are 3.0 s/n A617605....I am pretty sure this one was a runner............s/n5600142....not sure abot this one, it was removed from rotten boat(someone cut the transom out) this is a complete motor and drive, Gimble, trim rams etc. but some bolt on parts have been taken off motor. Both have been sitting for at least 2 years.

I think going with a 3.0 liter is a good call, plenty of available parts and a reliable power plant. You'll just have to move the front motor mount back a little to support the engine.

That's awesome Tom. You could also just glass in a new pad.

here is a picture of the pad in Jim's V174 with a 120. Slick how the battery fits right in front of it. Looks like it's basically a 2x4 glassed in on the ends. A bracket would work too.

The front plank is a 2x6. Jim's setup is exactly what mine used to look like. When I remodeled it I used 2 2x6's to make a new shelf up against the bulkhead and relocated the battery behind the port-side aft seat.

Found it.
My original setup, just like Jim's. The plank is a 2x6 held down with a couple layers of heavy roving. There are some angled spacers under the ends to raise the plank to the correct height.

When I made up my new shelf I did things a little differently and used resin with filler as a cake mix to bed the assembly in place to the floor, forward bulkhead and stringers. Then glassed it in all around the top.

When installing the engine you have to adjust the height of the front mount so the flywheel coupler lines up with the drive shaft, this is where an alignment tool comes in handy.

When I installed my engine I had a "woops" moment and discovered I didn't make the shelf high enough for the new engine. I didn't want to have to adjust my front mount to the top of its range so I made a spacer for the engine mount using a piece of 2x6 sealed with resin and painted to match the bilge. The mount is thru-bolted to the shelf using long bolts with fender washers and lock nuts underneath.

Temporary spacer for alignment check:

Both engines used the same front mount so I think you can use the original shelf at the same height without problems as long as it's not rotted out or soft. Just need to relocate it back about 6 inches. You can then make adjustments for alignment on the mount itself, which I'm sure you'll have to do. My engine just happened to be a bit different so I had to experiment.

Hey Tom hope it all works out for you. I could have given you a good deal, but not that good!  The 3.0 is the better way to go all things considered.

I may have to give you hard time in the future and yell "You could have had a V8" when your out on the water! ;D........LOL
