Looking for a big Trailer
« on: February 06, 2012, 02:32:19 PM »
I am looking at a 27 foot Renken boat that I may purchase. It does not have a trailer. Does anyone have one for sale or know of someone that does? I need (want) a big boat for fishing and camping on Lake Superior. Thanks in advance
I think this has become an addiction.

Where are you planning to take it on Superior? I've boated the Apostle Islands many times, Isle Royale and did a run from Duluth to Bayfield. Just make sure whatever you buy can handle the weight. I know a few people that trailer boats that size and some of them are on triple axle trailers.

Use it on Superior, Apostle Islands, Isle Royale, Etc. Trailer would be used for haul in and out haven't decided if we are going to slip it or not. Might just store it by the launch we use and then it would be just a short drive back and fourth to the launch. Looking for something that can sleep 4 adults comfortable with room for a kid or 2.

You'll probably want at least a 27' for that. Sounds like you've got the luxury of a place near the lake where you can keep it so your not towing it back and forth if you decide not to slip.

I loved boating Isle Royale. The wife(then girlfriend) spent 8 nights w/me on a 23' cuddy I had at the time. Can't hardly get her on a boat anymore!.....LOL    Anyways I need to get back there at some point.

Went and looked at the boat it is actually a 25ft don't know if that makes a trailer easier to find. It is in pretty decent shape needs a good cleaning in the worst way. Windows leaked a little. Paint faded but i think it will buff. Has a new 350 with 40 hrs on it. All the canvas is shot so will need the full camper top replaced as well.

Have you looked at ebay? Seems a lot the boat trailers listed for sale are larger tandem axle ones. At least that was my experience when I was looking for something for one of my Carlsons. Of course the other issue w/ebay is finding something somewhat local.

As far as the camper canvas if your not sure what it would cost to have a new one made, Permatop in Mound is good and they could give you an idea. Canvas work isn't cheap.
