Busted Windshield
« on: July 17, 2010, 07:07:17 PM »
Well, my wife and I had a great morning on Canyon lake in the MasterCraft (still working on my Glastron!).  Pulled the boat out early afternoon, stopped for Pizza, then sometime between pulling out of the parking lot and literally 5 miles down the small highway (45mph speed limit max), I looked back at the boat in the rearview mirror, and the passenger side front windshield of the boat was completely shattered, with a hole right in the middle about the size of a volleyball!!!!!!!!!!  I could not believe it.  No pics... didn't have my camera.

We pulled over and started cleaning as much of the glass out as we could, including the rest of the shattered glass still hanging on the windshield edge.   Many were peanut size pieces, but there were smaller shards everywhere as well.  Between the cushions, in compartments, in the seams of the carpet, what a mess.   I pulled out as much as I could with my work gloves on, until we could get to a car wash with a vacuum.  Still didn't get it all.

Don't really know what caused it... didn't hear anything, don't think a rock was thrown up (I was using my large "rock stoppers" mud flaps), didn't find anything in the boat, it was extremely hot but it's always hot?...  We had that windshield re-seated on the hull about 1.5 years ago because the middle windshield/door was not closing correct, but it's been working fine since then.  Maybe it was under stress from the install and just took the right conditions to bust?...

Oh well, a trip to the shop is in order next week and I'll have to look up and see what my deductible is, don't remember.

At least it wasn't the glastron where it's hard to find parts!...

Previous owner broke passenger window on my boat, when I got it home and cleaned it up found shards, about a year later I put in new carpet and found more shards, was going over vinyl with Buckeye 2000 (same as 303 but harder to find) and found more ...

Yep ..at least it wasn't the Glastron !

I believe on this boat it's glass all the way around.
