Arggg! I've got hook... Captain. Is it built in? - CV16
« on: August 28, 2020, 07:10:13 PM »
I've had the boat turned over. Life stopped the work.
Back in the garage again.

I see that there is about 3/8" hook at the greatest point,  about 4' long, tapering evenly towards both ends.

I read carlsoncvx18's post where the whole hull had a hook. My chines are flat as can be.

I know a bit of hook helps the boat come out of the water so I'm wondering if it is something that was designed in.

Any info would help as I'll be grinding cracks soon.

Dan

Plenty of info related to this hook is contained in the various threads on this site.  Several methods have been employed to remove it.    Some reinforce the inside and remove the hook at the transom by grinding.  Others, myself included, have built up the low spot which goes forward about four feet.  The hook was created to add stability and control to the hull by increasing the amount of wetted hull.   Doing so has the detrimental effect of limiting top speed.   Some folks remove it, others leave it be.  Personally I chose to remove it, on my timi, but left it in on the cvz

Thanks

I'm going to be using for skiing so I'll leave it.
Hole shot and acceleration are more important than top speed with this boat.

I never checked the keel.
Wasn't much on ether side though, about three feet back from transom
