Ok folks... It has become obvious to me that we are going to need to have more than one meet this summer. Why not??? How could that be a bad thing.
I still believe that the August meet will be the one that claims the most attention and should be viewed as the "Annual" Meet, but I am going to begin putting together a list of meets (one per month) that will be pre-cursors to the big one.
These "mini-meets" as I will call them, will be posted on calendars and pre designated as times that we can try to get together. We will have a pre determined meeting spot, and a general plan for the day. Most of them will be centered around Saturdays, but may begin on Friday night and carry over into Sunday morning.
I expect that we will focus these mini-meets in the Stillwater, Hudson, Prescott, Minnetonka areas.
Our annual meet will still be decided after Jason can provide us with some photo's of the Red Wing (Island Campground) site. The decision will remain between Lake City and Red Wing.
This way, we can have some organized outings and some club leadership while maintaining the flexability to attend if you are able.
Like I said, I'm hoping to put somthing together one weekend a month from May to September with the Annual meet in August. Of course, these mini-meets will be at your own expense, and will be up to you for whatever you need. I'm just going to provide the schedules and the locations for each weekend.
Sound ok? Let me know your thoughts!

Love the idea Brian. The more notice we have of these meets the better. Especially with busy summer schedules!
-
You got it... I'll start putting it together this week...
-
Jason,Dave and I took a run on the Mississippi last year and had a great time.
Maybe a Miss. river run...
-
That was a lot of fun. A trip north through the locks would be neat too. I have not made it past the minneapolis locks but would like to try it one day.
Also, A weekind trip up to the Apostle islands is in need too.
Minnesota river up to Shakopee?
Lake Minnetonka. There is also a nice campground right next door on lake independace that you can make reservations at.
I have also camped on lake ossawinnamakee and fish trap lake near the brainered area. Both have very nice camp grounds.

Some isolated thoughts:
Tentatively plan for a weekend, but finalize the plans a few days beforehand when the weather forecast is more predictable. If the weather can go one way or another, simply postpone for the next weekend, and if people still want to go ahead as planned, they may.
The Minnesota River is great, but needs to be early in the season when the water level is high.
A trip starting in Red Wing or the start of Lake Pepin, through Lake Pepin and ending in Wabasha, about 30 miles one way.
Just some thoughts.

We'll have to bring extra gas...If I remember right we were both runn'in on fume's by the end of the day.
-
Right Greg, running on fumes has happened too many times for me. Also I have run out of gas twice on White Bear Lake because I have underestimated how quickly the remaining gas would be consumed. But luckily, the wind was always in my favor and I paddled/floated to the boat ramp.
For the Red Wing to Wabasha trip, about, say 70 miles, and getting 5 miles per gallon, one would need 15 gallons. I have three 6 gallon tanks so should squeak by.
How many tanks do you have Gregg, and what is your MPG? Would you need three tanks? There would be gas on the river, but at a high cost.

lol....
I think you need to better understand the relationship between engine rotational speed and gas consumption David! You gotsa stop racing every hotboat in sight just to prove your mirror-finish broze prop kicks butt.

Just kidding you. My later model inline is an absolute pig on gas. Luckily I carry 24 gallons when full. My reserve tank is 6 gallons, leaving me 18 gallons to play with between pumps.
Boys gotta have fun ......

I thought that the faster I went, the less gas I used per mile since I was going faster.
Chris, you can tell when the 6 inline Mercury's are beginning to use the gas, around 4,600 RPM when they begin to labor. It would be much worse running a 17" or 19" pitch prop or if the boat was kicking up big waves.
Chris, what are your winter projects?
Install gauges
Install jackplate
Polish 22" Laser II
Determine if 21" bronze prop needs fixing
Ask wife what needs to be done inside the house
I am toying with the idea of switching to the Evinrude lower unit grease when my Mercury grease gets used up.
Are you going to stick with the Mercury High-Performance grease?

"You gotsa stop racing every hotboat in sight just to prove your mirror-finish broze prop kicks butt."
YA...Like that's gonna happen. Dave's fun lever is alway at max.
The day on the Mississippi I went through 2 six gal. tanks and was on fumes. Don't think i could have run another min.
I've paid the high price at the dock before. Had to fill an 80 gal tank. 6 gals. isn't to bad.
If I'm hav'in fun money's no object...LOL...
-
Gregg, yes, putting a little money into boating is okay, because it is the only addiction and hobby we have.

That's why Dave is fun to boat with! Drive it like a rental and keep the hammer down buddy! ;D

Better to hot rod on the rivers where it is safe, then on the roads. In my younger days I used to like to lay rubber and go fast. I still like to go fast, but only on the water. The 2002 Toyota Celica has a 4 cylinder 1.8 liter engine that gets 34 MPG. The power does not kick in until the higher RPM's, around 4,500. the car only weights 2,425 pounds, and I put on Michelin snow tires in the winter for grip on the snow and ice. There is no rear seat leg room to speak of, but the family of 4 does not complain.
Kip, we will have to resolve who has the fastest boat. When we were neck and neck around Hastings, it appeared I was gaining on you, but the best way is to get up to about top speed neck and neck and then go full throttle. If you raise your engine, you would certainly be faster than me.

I get the feeling 2009 will be the year for GPS speed trials. Can't wait to read your stories!
Kip, is yours a 115 or a 125hp? I forget.
-
He has a 115 :)
-
Kip, is yours a 115 or a 125hp?
Wonder if putting 125 HP decals on it would make go faster, probably not. ;D
I've got a few things I'm gonna try to pump another mile an hour or two out of her. We'll see if it goes faster or not.

Has there been a definate date nailed down for a meet in August?
I would really like to come. My wife was asking me to pick a week in August for vacation.
-
No there hasen't, but I'm fairly certain that we are going to go with the weekend of the 20th and 21st.

I would love to head-up the Minnetonka mini-meet - as mentioned earler, there are several spots to meet.
