Faria Fuel Manager Gauge
« on: February 07, 2014, 01:19:02 PM »
I am thinking about adding one of these to Phoenix Rising when I do the engine swap and power steering upgrade. Does anyone have any experience with these?

Not sure I f I want to know how much fuel i am burning.

Might scare me not that there is any thing I can do about it other that slow down, but that wouldn't be any fun.

At my shop there are a number of customer boats that use those to gauge fuel usage, especially on the twin-engine boats.

Certainly a kewl addition to a boat, but honestly, I could find numerous other things to spend the money on.   A decent fuel gauge is all I need.

For less then $100 you could get a hand held GPS.
We used one to get total miles traveled, then figured how much fuel used and came up with about 4 mpg for Dave and my 115 HP outboards.
Believe Jeff's CVX18 with 350 ci I/O got about 3 mpg ...
Jason has an app for his phone that has GPS, but not sure if it has miles traveled ...

I know there's an app for my i phone that puts the MPH on a picture you take, so you could take a picture of your tach, and have the MPH right on it, but I can't find it. (Shopping the app store is a pain in the azz)

Honestly, I was thinking about replacing my fuel gauge with it, or at least have it on board to give me a more accurate read on my actual fuel level in my tank of long runs.

I read thru the pdf. The transducer only works with 3/8" rubber fuel line. It isn't a fuel gauge except that it will calculate fuel used and subtract that amount from what total you entered into the device. It won't "read" how much fuel you have in the tank.

I could see using it in addition to the fuel gauge, but personally I wouldn't use it to replace the fuel gauge.

Oh, I already am, but I have to get Phoenix Rising's new engine built first.

There are a bunch of apps you can use. I use one called "Ski Tracks" mostly for XC skiing and snowboarding but works just as good for boating. Here is from a ride on lake Vermillion.
