Hi - This is my first boat and I have lots to do. Its a 79 CVX 16SS with the Mercruiser 140.

We took it out a few times after doing some work to get it up to par and seaworthy. On the 3rd trip out it, #1 exhaust valve decided it could no longer keep it together. Im searching for a good used motor as a rebuilt or new motor is out of the question at this time. It also needs the Gimble pin replaced as the steering sloppy, but there is little info on this. I know it can also use a floor and stringers, but I gotta say, in the 3 days we took it out, only the first time did it drain any water from the drain plug on the ramp. So its water tight. I look forward to getting it back on the water over the winter with another motor, and possibly redo the bottom end on the old motor when $$ is available.

Welcome to the form Demian !
I've been following you on FB.
Talk to Brandon ( User name .. 75starflight on forum)   believe he has the motor stuff your looking for.
Stringers / floor / transom are the skeleton of your boat, when they go bad your whole boat hull is flexing, after time the fiberglass will start to crack. Best to do it as soon as possable. It takes time and is dirty work, but after reading your stuff on FB, I'm sure you have the abilty to do it. Do some reading, watch some Youtube videos, ask some questions.
There are also a few rebuild threads on here and CGOA forum.

Thanks for noticing me. I like older stuff and go head-first but try to be able to enjoy it while sorting it out.

I may have found a good used motor locally, just waiting on a couple casting numbers.

How about the steering slop? Any direction with that?

I need to sell a nice 2-stroke seadoo and Suzuki street bike so i can fund this project entirely.

I think your best bet would be to find a donor boat that has the outdrive parts in the motor you need, not sure how common stuff is down there, but up here in Minnesota you can’t hardly walk down the street without tripping over a MerCruiser 140.
You could also put an M are in from the late 70s early 80s, I believe you would have to make the keyhole just a little bit bigger and move two of the bolt holes out a little bit.
If you can’t find anything reasonable locally I believe I have a MC assembly if it’s good I could pull the parts and ship them to you.

Shouldn't I have an Allen bolt that I can see from the rear of the boat, in the gimble ring? I don't have one and I don't have the two pinch bolts either...

First off disregard my ramblings, I should’ve looked back to see that your boat is a 79. I think that affair with the pinch bolts came later in the 80s, could you post a picture of the one you have. The newer style will fit right in, that would probably be the way to go.

But those are $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ as much as I paid for the boat :(

I’m not talking about a Gen 2, just the newer style alpha 1
It seems like you should be able to find a donor boat with the motor in the  drive parts, everything you need for a fairly good price. You just got I really look around, they used that same basic configuration and lots of boats

I was able to find a nice used and once rebuilt OMC of the same era and casting numbers for the boat, now just need a gimbal ring, lever and pin. If you have something good, lets talk.
