Ok took some pics. I disconnected the heat riser apparatus and wired the choke flapper open. I have not started it again yet as I spent most of the afternoon on the gimbal bearing.
As I was talking to Jeff, he looked at the set up on his 18 and I asked if he had the plastic choke stuff with a vacuum line going to it. He does not so I wonder what this will do now that I wired and disconnected the heat riser part. Also, the short piece of vacuum line appears to be original and likely rotten. If not needed, I should just plug it. Thoughts?
I took some pics of both sides and front of the carb.
Several other questions.
1. Get rid of the vacuum line choke stuff?
2. When looking for a high speed idle adjustment screw which I saw on YouTube, I came across this screw type thingy. Its green in the pic. I saw no adjustment screw. It looks like this may turn, since it has flats on it but if I am disconnecting the associated linkage, I dont think I should mess with this?
3 What kind of tool is used to adjust these dang idle mixture screws?
4. I seem to recall that when I had the carb rebuilt for my Jet, the guy at the Carb shop told me this safety lines that go from the fuel pump to the carb, in case of diaphragm failure, is supposed to flood the carb. If it dumped into the bowl, it would just keep on running and defeat its purpose. Since mine was not hooked up when I pulled the motor last fall and I found a brass nipple in the bilge, I connected it in the most obvious spot but I am not sure that is the correct spot.
As you can see in the pics, the throttle linkage is NOT returning to the idle adjustment screw.
