Fuel pumps.. Electric or manual?

There is a electric fuel pump on the new futura I got and when we were out with it on Saturday it went through a LOT of gas... And sounded like it was drowning.   When we got home I took a closer look at the pump and there doesn't seem to be any regulator on it for pressure. I'm wondering it it was over flowing the carb? What kind of regulator would I need. Or should I put a regular style fuel pump on?

First verify the carb is flooding. If there's fuel pouring or dripping into the throats of the carb on top of the throttle plates when they are closed then it's flooding. You shouldn't see any fuel coming from the spray nozzles at idle. Consider a carb rebuild if that hasn't been done. Otherwise a fuel pressure regulator. Just installed one for a guy this weekend. You want something adjustable between 4 and 9 psi. Pressure should be somewhere around 6 psi.

The facet pumps generally supply a Max pressure of around 3-4 psi given the lift height you are working with.  You could look the part number up, the 574a is a UL number.  With the pump on, and engine not running, you should be able to look down the carb to see if the fuel pressure is overcoming the needle valve.  Floats get saturated, and needles and seats wear.  Regulating the pressure below 3psi and you risk a lean condition at WOT.  You could test the pump pressure at the carb to rule out the fuel delivery side.

If the actual part number is available, then look up the specs or check the pressure with a gauge.  I assume a Rochester, both the qjet and 2gc variants like about 4-5 psi.  Depends on your fuel demand of the engine.  If qjet, the horn may be sprung from tightening the air cleaner/spark arrestor down to tight.  This allows fuel to spill from bowl, and a host of other issues.

Had the carb. Rebuilt, said the floats were bad.. found out the electric pump I have only pumps between 7-10 lbs. so I'm going to give the electric one another try. Or they also make one that's between 3-6 lbs maybe I should use that one?  Also found out why the motor ran so bad... Check out the pictures.. Spart plugs.... BAD! Is an understatement.. 4 of 8 had cracks and one had a big pice of the ceramic missing...should run better now. Getting the impeller replaced now so it stays cool.  Any one know what this tube is for on the q- jet that I'm pointing to? The other end is close to where the man fuel pump was.. And if not used, should it be plugged?

It is supposed to go to the dry side of the diaphragm in case it bursts the fuel will go back into the float bowl, in your application you could just plug it

Like Joe stated, since your electric, just pull the hose, and put a cap on the fitting at the carb.
